Will an Impala be big enough?

I currently have reserved a Premium size car (Bonneville) through National. But in looking to cut costs a little, I'm wondering if a Full size (Impala) would have enough space? Just driving around town and the parks, I'm sure it's fine. But getting to/from MCO with our luggage is where I'm concerned. We'll have 3 adults and 1 child, 3 large suitcases, 1 med suitcase and each of us will have backpacks.

On the National site, it says that the Impala can hold 5 people and 2 suitcases. But on this messageboard, I've read that Impalas have very roomy trunks. Since there will be only 2 people in the back seat, I'm sure we can fit 1 or 2 suitcases back there. But will the Impala's truck be big enough for the rest? Or should we stay with the Bonneville? Thanks!

I had an Impala 2 weeks ago, the trunk was huge, you should be OK. How much more is the Bonneville? Remember a full size is Impala or similiar.

I think the Bonneville was $30-50 more (for the 11 days we'll need it). So really not that much, but that's $30-50 more that we could spend in the parks, LOL!

Any idea what other cars are similar to an Impala? The Impala's trunk sounds like it would be fine, but I'm worried that their idea of similar would be similar in size or price, but not in truck room. Any ideas if similar would also have similar trunk room? Thanks!

Hi,

My mom owns an Impala and it is plenty big enough. The trunk is huge! Lots of leg room in the back seat as well.

I have had some other full size from national and the trunks were not as big. We rent from Hertz a lot and there full size is usually a Taurus, which is a good size, but NOT a big as the Impala. In my renatl experience the Impala is the biggest of all the full size.

We have had both the Impala and Buick Century and they were big enough for us (2 adults, 3 kids, one suitcase and small carryon each).

We rented an Impala 3 weeks ago and were able to fit 10 pieces of luggage in the car with 2 adults and 2 children. Here's what we had. 3 large, 2 medium and 3 carry-ons in the trunk, 2 car seats, a stroller and 2 more carry ons in the car. It was a huge trunk! :flower:

I'm not so sure that the Bonneville is going to be that much bigger than an Impala, especially in the trunk area. If you can get your hands on a Crown Vic you might want to try that out. Just look at many of the taxi services around. What cars are they driving, that should give you an idea of what has a roomy trunk and what doesn't.

You can get a lot more then 2 suitcases in the trunk of full size car. I would go with the smaller car and save the money. Look around at the parking lots at the stores for Impalas, etc. and check out the trunks. I am sure you can get at least 3 suitcases and some smaller carry-ons in the trunk. Besides that, you won't have the suitcases in the car for long and if someone has to hold a carryon or two, it is only for a short time. Save the money.

We rented an Impala on our Vegas trip two years ago. We were so impressed with its roominess that we went out and bought an Impala the next year! Our boys are 6'4 and 6'2 and fit comfortably in the car. :)

We had an Impala- 2 large suitcases, 2 smaller ones (bigger than the carry on size), 3 backpacks, 1 carry-on, and 1 laptop bag.

We still would have had room for more, had we needed it. All of that was laying flat on the trunk floor.

I was extremely impressed w/ the Impala- Just one word of caution- There are a lot of Impala rentals. Remember where you park, or plan on usuing the keychain horn thing. We took 2 antenna toppers, to help, but the Impala has no antenna. We finally bought a magnet for the back. It was a hoot trying to find our silver Impala in a full resort parking lot.
