I noticed a really amazing one way fair on Continental to Orlando. I've noticed on travelocity, that all the low fares are only booking through Jan. 9, just like Southwest is only booking through Jan. 9. I'm fairly certain they'll lower their rates for my return date before too long (I'm looking to return on the 12th), so I want to hold out a little bit longer to look for some decreases.

So, if I book a one way ticket on Continental now, then book my return flight later, will they attach the tickets together as someone on a RT ticket (to help avoid that pesky higher likelihood of being flagged by security), or will they just consider it two one ways?

It will still be two one way tickets. The extra check isn't too bad. Just allow a little more time and you will be fine.

I book one-ways almost all the time on Southwest to increase my flexibility in rebooking if the flight goes down, and we've never been selected for extra security. I wouldn't worry about it and go ahead and book one-way.
