Will a new AAA membership help me tonight?

I am looking to book my vacation tonight. If I register and pay for my AAA membership right now, can I start inquiring about the discounts immediately?

I don't know if they will mail me my membership number or send me an email or can I just book it and tell them that my membership card did not arrive yet?

I am also from northern IL and joined AAA for the discount, LOL. With me, after I paid online I expected a temporary number or something to be emailed to me. It didn't work that way, LOL, although I think in different parts of the country it works differently. I phoned the AAA 800 number the next morning after 9 am, and they gave me my number over the phone which I used when I called CRO to book my room.

A warning!! The AAA site may show false availablity. I booked thru our local AAA office, and another part of our trip thru CRO, giving my number. Be REALLY careful with that AAA reservation site. It almost caused me a BIG problem - that's the only reason I wound up calling a AAA office and booking thru them.

Maybe it's different depending on where you live, but when I joined online a few weeks ago I was able to print a temporary card with my AAA number on it to start using right away. I got my actual cards in the next week.

Everytime I called they asked for the AAA number. I had to do some changing around and modifying and they asked for it every single time. Once I did not have it handy and she told me to call back when I have it!!

2poohbears - yes, I heard that some people were able to do that. I THOUGHT I would have that option, but it never came. Just "Thanks for your payment.." kind of thing. At least I was able to get the number from the office the next day. My card took a couple weeks to arrive.

I originally booked my AAA room only discount calling myself and not being a member of AAA yet. No problem getting the rate. I then changed my ressies to AAA package with dining.. the AAA TA had to take over my ressies and book the packages.. I am STILL not a member. I need to show my card at check in.. so I wanted to wait until closer to my reservations ( I am actually joining tomorrow). This way, next year when we go if I need to AAA rates again I can use the same membership (we will be going a month earlier next year). I may use other AAA benefits during the year.. but my car comes with it's own roadside assistance so I don't really need AAA.. no sense having to buy it 2 years in a row if avoidable.

Even the AAA TA said that was fine, she will give me my number the day I join. I am all confirmed with my ressies with the AAA rate.

But like others have said.. maybe it's different in different states? But still weird how WDW keeps asking you for the number

Well, I purchased my AAA membership and made a room only reservation for October at the Polynesian which gave me a discount of almost $300 for 6 nights. I was wondering if I change to a AAA package, if that might make a bigger difference. I am new to AAA and am unfamiliar with exactly what kind of WDW discounts I can get.

You won't get a bigger discount. AAA only has discounts for room only, so they would have the same discount as you have gotten yourself.
If you had wanted to do a package then you must go through AAA, but you would still only get discounted on room only. No extra savings.
