Last time we came to Disney our son was 5 and we brought our own umbrella stroller, thinking he'd use it when he was tired. He ended up riding in it all day long and it was great for holding sweaters, souvenirs, etc. We have since gotten rid of both of our strollers. I still think, however, that he is going to get tired walking around in the heat all day. Will he fit in a Disney stroller, and if so, do bigger kids use them? He'll be upset if he thinks he looks like a "baby"!

If that is his feeling, I'd consider that done. No stroller for him. You see a lot more little kids than bigger ones. You do see bigger ones, but undoubtedly, they get the "looks". If he needs you to slow down, go at his pace, take some breaks, spend a little more time at the resort pool to relax and have fun.

Oh, and carry less junk around. That gets tiresome as well.

Be prepared for some heated debates about older kids in a stroller. We rented a double one for our two kids last year when they started to get tired and cranky on the 3rd day. They were 6 and 7. They wasn't much room in there but they were happy. You might want to wait and see if he gets tired and then rent one. If he doesn't, then you have saved yourself about $32.00.

I agree! We never used one past 4 with our kids and they were fine. He weighs as much as my 11 yr old so yes he would probably get looks. Kids have as much energy as adults and there is as much sitting ans there is walking in Disney. Tell him everybody gets tired at Disney!

I'm also sure that at 7 he doesn't expect a stroller, no 7 yr old would.

We have a 23 mo. old, 6 year old and 8 year old. We are taking a stroller for the toddler, but are expecting that a couple of times we will rent one for the 6 year old. Love him to pieces, but he is the slowest walker I have ever met and a bit of a whiner. I'm thinking at epcot we will rent one for our own sanity and was also thinking the night that we are planning to hop to epcot for illuminations we might rent a double for the two older kids. It will give them a seat to watch from and keep them from getting lost or trampled in the mob upon leaving. Will we get funny looks?? Don't know, but keeping everyone happy and safe makes our trip smoother and that's all that matters to me. But at the other parks, since I have planned carefully to avoid a lot of crossing back and forth I think he should be ok stroller free those days. So to answer your question, yes, I think your son will fit and if it makes your vacation easier, go for it. Your older child being in a stroller is not infringing on someone else.

Yes a 50lb child would fit. My daughter who was probably close to 70 lbs shared a double with her brother on our last trip. They each took turns sitting in the stroller. The only real issue we had was with height. The strollers are not made for taller children.

but it is important to remember, sometimes 7 year olds are in strollers because they aren't "typical" 7 year olds. Don't be so quick to judge. Some 7 year olds with sensory issues, or autism, or even stamina issues need to be in a stroller to enjoy their trip.

I always cringe when I read "no 7 year old needs a stroller". I am a special educator and know plenty of 7+ year olds who need that stroller. They look just like "normal" 7 year olds. I just feel so sad when people judge on age and size alone.

Oh, and as required popcorn::

Thank you for stating that! I was lurking and just had to log in to say thanks. We kept our now 6 yr old in a stroller up until 5 due to stamina probs. He can now keep up for most of our trip (usually 2 wks). I also have a very large 5 yr old w/autism who looks around 7 and needs a stroller for safety issues. Believe me, we have gotten our share of dirty looks and snyde comments! What matters is that you do what is best for YOUR family and the heck with anyone else's opinion...and that's MHO. :flower3:

My 7 year old fits in one. She has special needs (you wouldn't know it to look at her) and we didn't get any nasty looks. She's 50 lbs. but it's the height that might be an issue. The canopy touched the top of her head and she couldn't stand that. We took her special needs stroller but one tire went flat so renting was our only option. We originally rented the single for her but it is extremely small so we rented the double the next day. Also the seat is hard plastic so it was more difficult for her to sit in and be comfortable. They have umbrella stroller for sale at Disney now too. I bought one a couple of years ago for $40 but I don't know how much they are now. We still have the umbrella one but it's to small now.

And personally, I don't care what people might say about my child being "to big" to ride in the stroller. Hopefully they won't ever have to lead the life we have to lead.

Depends on how long you can push 50 lbs around - a 50 lber will fit, but it might just do the adults in by pushing that much dead weight around. Then you have exhausted parents, and a raring to go 7 year old.

I'd much rather have a tired 7 year old who goes right to sleep than one clamoring at 10PM to go to the pool when I'm exhausted.

It has already been said, but I will say it again. A lot of the "bigger" kids in strollers may have a disability or difficulty that is not visible to someone else. That is the case with my DS5/autistic. I'd much rather push that 50 lbs than have that 50 lbs pulling and tugging me all day, or spontaneously falling to the ground for no reason and taking me down with him, or dealing with that 50 lb meltdown...

There is no need for this to be a heated subject as someone put it. To each his own. If you want to push your 12 year old in a stroller, it isn't hurting me. If your 3 year old can go all day without a stroller, then that's fantastic too. Everyone's situations and abilities are different. BTW, my DS gets plenty of time out of the stroller with plenty of walking time so he is usually falling asleep before we leave the park along with my DS6 who walked the whole day. Just trying to offer my perspective. :flower3:

If your son is concerned he will look like a baby, then you have your answer.Yes there are older kids in strollers , but as others have pointed out alot may have a disability. My 4 yr old never wanted one, nor used one at disney.

Like someone else said, I would wait and if he asks for one, then rent one. We just took our 5 year old and he didn't need one the 6 days we were there. But if had asked, we would have then rented one. But we were waiting to see first. He did ride on my husband's shoulders a bit but at only 35 lbs, my husband can handle him.

I wonder if you can find a website that gives the exact dimensions of the strollers? Than you would have a better idea.

That being said, our twins are only 3 and use the stroller on long days. On the days we're going back to the room for a rest we skip the stroller. They have a combined weight of almost 70 lbs and it gets heavy pushing the stroller! Just prepare yourself!

Yes, but I'd rent a double stroller..they are more comfortable for the child.

I just got back with my 6 year old and she is a peanut..I still rented a double for her.

She needed it, I needed the exercise, and I wouldn't care what kind of looks I got. It's our day, our time, and our vacation. No one's gonna stare or look..it's too crowded at disney..you need to keep your eyes on your own family and ahead of you so you don't bash into anyone!:rotfl:

Yes, he will fit :)
We just went in March and one of the days that the kids were complaining about having sore legs from so much walking we rented a double stroller and they both fit comfortably. My kids are 4 (43 lbs) and 8 (53 lbs) and both on the taller side.

:lmao: I concur.

As far as the stroller debate I will only say this: You parent and make decisions for your kid and I will parent and make decisions for my kid.

My DD fit in the double stroller with her sister. She was only 4 years 5 months at the time but is 52 lbs and 45 inches tall.

We expect them both to walk this trip as we only used the double one day last time. If I need it I will rent it. If I don't ~ I am not lugging around something I don't need.

I pushed around the double stroller with a 52lb kid and a 32lb kid for a whole day of commando touring around the world at Epcot ~ I was tired but certainly not from pushing the stroller.

There are the facts as I have experienced it ~ do with it what is best for you and your family!! And have fun!
