My DS5 slept on the top bunk last year with no problems. He loved sleeping in the top bunk. However, I agree with the above post if you have a restless sleeper you may want to ask for an extra rail. Our DS2 slept on the lower bed and we asked for an extra rail for the head of the bead. This was his first time in the "big boy bed". We originally asked for a pack and play but he climbed right out (which he never did at home). As he was leaning on the side it collapsed and he fell down. So, we moved him over to the lower bunk without incident.
