Will 210 points be enough?

We own 210 points at VWL. We have never felt a burning need to own more, but since we recently returned from WDW, we are thinking about adding more.

100 pts. different use year at VWL (by one month) -- $80 pt.
150 pts. same use year at OKW -- $72 pt.
130 pts. different use year at BCV (by one month) - $85 pt.

Obviously, the same use year package is the most attractive, but I'm thinking that may be too many points.

Have any of you ever used pts. for the cruise? Can you do half pts half cash ie: use points for adults, pay for kids???

What about the other vacation spots???

We love Disney and everything about it. Try to get there twice per year. We are annual passholders -- the whole shebang.

I just feel such pressure, especially with the upcoming price increase.

We have 900 pts, and we rent out the pts, and use the cash when we are doing the cruise or staying at other hotels, because it's usually cheaper that way, and you can often find discounts for cash, especially on the Disney cruise. DD did the cruise last fall, and got the week for under $400, which is only renting out 40 points vs. 167(Ithink) points. Too many points? There is no such thing!

You can't have too many points! We added on this year and now have 300 points and it's still not enough!

If you're staying for more than a week in a 1BR then 210 points might not be enough. It takes 200 points for a 1BR in value season, and 214 in Regular @ BCV for a week's stay. You might be able to get away with that number of points at BWV seeing that they have Standard View points as well as Boardwalk View points.

I guess you can always stay at OKW, which if I'm not mistaken, might be the cheapest stay points-wise on property.

Actually we're doing it on 170 points, but I'm thinking that we'll probably have to increase that total at some point if we're going to continue a yearly trek down.

I would stay buy more at VWL. The use year is easy enough to figure out, just book 10 months in advance to your first contract. That will give you enough points to do whatever you want.

BTW, there is no definition for "enough points."

Why not wait until DVC announces a new resort? We have our 165 at SSR, and will probably wait to add more points until they come out with newer resorts (hoping for DL and possibly Contemporary if they come out).

Oh, wanted to add that you can set up a savings account, in which, you make monthly payments to (as if you financed) and would have cash when a new resort opens....just a thought.

No such thing as too many points! We started with 230 and added on 150 (both at OKW). I am pretty stingy with my 380 points, but I never have any trouble using them! Sure, I occationally bank into the next year, but they are always gone before they expire!

BTW, I would not advise waiting until another resort comes on line. There is no telling when or if that will be, and why not enjoy while you know what you have?

Personally, I think you are the only one who can determine the right number of points for your family. Using points for alternatives other than Disney doesn't seem to be the best use of money, the exchange for cruise ship accomodations doesn't seem to be very good. Hopefully you will get some responses from individuals who own other timeshares in addition to DVC, that may be an option for you as well.
