Will 18 month olds wear sunglasses?

I recently read some info about the dangers of sunglasses for young kids. If the lenses are not truly protective (UV whatever) then they can actually "trick" the eye into thinking it's darker/shaded, then the pupil dilates but that actually lets MORE light into their sensitive little eyes. So be very careful - even more expensive pairs may not have the proper protection. A big brimmed hat seems like a good idea.....

My DD3 got her first pair of sunglasses at 12 months. We got them at Stride Rite. They were little pink glasses and fit her perfectly. She has blue eyes like mine, and the pediatrician had told us that we should be particular about her eyes exposure to bright sunlight, especially since she has light pigmented eyes.

She has always worn them well. She usually does not take them off. In the car, she is less likely to wear them, but usually I don't either. We have decent tint on our windows, so there is not a lot of glare. We had more luck with sunglasses than we did with hats actually while we were at WDW. However, she would allow us to shade her with the stroller cover, which by the way also helps cut the sun glare off the eyes.
