Does anyone live near here or vacation here frequently? Our dd might be in a competition in Wildwood next year, and we were wondering what it is like. We'd have to spend 4-5 nights, and much of our time would be spent with the competition stuff, though I'd sure we'd have some free time.

Overall, is it an expensive place to eat and play? I imagine that we'd have to stay at the same hotel as her team, but I'm hoping to eat cheap if possible. I have to save $$ for WDW! LOL

Are there any interesting/historical places to visit nearby?

What time of the year would you be there? That fact alone could greatly effect what activities there would be available to do while you're there because many places are open "seasonally".

No matter when you're there, try and visit Cape May, NJ, which is an historical town just south of Wildwood. :)

It's your typical Jersey shore beach town. It has a boardwak and amusements along with the usual salt water taffy and souvenir shops. It's been some time, but I remember a buffet-style restaurant called the Rusty Anchor. As far as expense, it would depend on what time of year you go, but expect typical tourist area prices.

Thanks! We'd be there in mid-June. I didn't realize that Cape May was close to Wildwood. I'm not familiar with NJ at all.

Hi, we have vacationed there about 10 times over the past 10 years. The kids love it, love it, love it. I do find the prices have gone up significantly, like anything else I guess.

The restaurants on the boardwalk are not too expensive. The pizza is cheap 99c a slice and upwards. If you go to the small sit down restaurants on the boardwalk, it adds up quickly. We try to get a room with some amenities, and eat breakfast there at least, and perhaps lunch, thus only eating supper out..There are also tons of all you can eat bufftets.

The boardwalk is kid heaven, and adults also..There are 3 piers of excitement and games.. Here is one pier's website, www.moreyspiers.com, that is full of rides:)

www.wildwoods.org is the Wildwood welcome center site. It has lots of information also. With some coupons for discounts. You could ask them to send you a brochure..

Hope this helps even a tad.... :goodvibes

Another great place to eat is Garfield's its a must when I visit there. Wildwood happens to be my favorite boardwalk in NJ. Not a bar on the boardwalk, all of their clubs are on a separate strip of road, which makes for a great family friendly atmosphere. And Cape May is beautiful any time of year. After you get back, you will constantly be saying "watch the tram car please" :teeth:

I love the Wildwoods and vacation there whenever possible. There are three towns on the island, North Wildwood, Wildwood and Wildwood Crest. I prefer the Crest ... it's very quiet and very clean.

Wildwood itself is home to "the" boardwalk. I forget how long it is, but it's filled with tons of amusement part type entertainment, lots of inexpensive eateries, a hotel or two and lots of little tourist like shops. It's a family place, but expect a lot of teens and teen activity, like hanging out ;) , because of the boards.

Wildwood has gigantic, free beaches that are very clean.

There are tons of great inexpenive restaurants off the boardwalk and a bunch of little great places to grab pizza or ice cream on the boards. You can also find fresh squeezed orange juice for your early sun rise walk on the beach! :teeth:

One of the best places to go is the Cape May County Zoo. It's maybe 5 - 7 miles away, it's a very short trip from Wildwood. It's free! :Pinkbounc LOL! It's a fantastic zoo! It's small, but the animals are well kept. I love the zoo. Lots of peacocks, both white and usual, roam the grounds. And you get to see lots of tamarins and marmosets.

Mid - June shouldnt be so bad with crowds yet.. Our kids are in school still so no real locals hanging around until the weekends..

I agree... typical Jersey Shore beach... However if you are going on the actual beach... Prepare for a semi-long walk down to the ocean..

There are amusement rides.. merry go round, bumber cars.. etc Cotton Candy and of course Salt Water Taffy and FUDGE!!!!!
