Wildwood, NJ

I spent every summer in WW as a kid. It is probably one of my all-time favorite memories as a child! My grandmother still has a house in North Wildwood, however my dad's whole family started taking over the house so we eventually started vacationing elsewhere.

I do agree with TeresaNJ, it became quite trashy over the years. Parts of the boardwalk still are trashy although you can tell that they are trying to clean it up. It's not as bad, then again we only went for a day trip last year. I hope they do eventually get it back to the "old" Wildwood, the one we remember as kids. I think WW will always have it's roudy crowds, but it just got way too out of hand for awhile.

As far as things to do, there are plenty! That was always the place to go when we were younger because there was so much to do. The boardwalk is huge, so is the beach! Also, all of the other shores are so close that you could go to them as well. Have a good time.

Another big vote for Ocean City NJ!! Much more family friendly.

Oh, and don't forget, in some places in Wildwood, to get from the street to the water is over a mile walk!!! at least it seems that way.

It's been years since I stayed in Wildwood. I just can't figure out why so many people are willing to pay a ton of money to stay in WW. As a kid it was okay; a little freaky because you couldn't see your feet in the water and we always swam in a pool at home. But as an adult and after a few trips to Florida beaches and the islands, the thought of going in that water totally freaks me out. :crazy2: I haven't been to the jersey shore in the past 7 or 8 years so maybe the water is cleaner....

The NJ ocean water will never be as clear as Florida and island water. It's a totally different enviroment. Just because you can't see your feet doesn't mean that it's unclean.

I've spent a weekend in September in North Wildwood for almost 17 years, with a year off here and there.

There is so much to do, we can't fit it all in. Just walking the Boardwalk at night is fun. Sitting and eating a cone, people watching. Lots of places to visit up and down the coast. Great shopping in Stone Harbor.

We just found out the the motel we've stayed at for over 17 years is going condos. We're looking at Cape May as a new place to go. Nothing will replace our balcony view of the ocean (that was directly across the street).

Thanks everyone. I've heard that the crest is better also. I've found an agent through a personal reference. We've done OC but are looking to try something else. I would love Cape May but I've heard it's expensive. I think we will stay in Wildwood and drive to Cape May for day trips. Oh, and visit AC on the way down, of course! :teeth:

Well, we've rented a cottage on the bay side, which I've heard is quieter than the Boardwalk. Can anyone tell me if there are beaches on the bay side, or only on the Atlantic Ocean, where the Boardwalk is? Thanks!
