Wilderness of the Smokies

Can anyone give me any advice on the Wilderness of the Smokies? Thinking of doing a one night trip there at the end of August. We live about 2.5 hours away, so its not that far. Maybe checking in on a Saturday and leave the next day around 2 pm.

We're going in late August as well. It gets really crowded on the weekends, however if the outdoor waterpark is open as well it's not as bad. We specifically chose a Mon & Tue nights to try to dodge the crowds.
