I am wondering if any recommends a standard view or we should stay away from it. I have read a lot about the standard room facing the service area. I know we wont be in our room looking out the window all day but I would hate to sit out on the balcony at night and look at service trucks. That doesn't seem very vacation like. Does anyone think 230.00 more is worth it for a woods view?? :)

Are you sure it is 230.00 more? If so, no, it is not worth that much for a woods view. I had a woods view once that was really just a view of a bunch of rooftops and the woods were far away--it was not truly a "woods" view. Once I had a woods view room that was ok but it was definitlely not worth paying more money for it. However, I once had the view that looked over the pool (cannot remember what that view is called) and I did feel it was worth paying more money.

Alison Wonderland, It is 230 more total not per night but 230 could pay for our rent a car.

For me yes. I generally do not pay for views, and just roll the dice on getting comped to a better view.

But for my trip next week, I chose woods view because I didnt want to see or hear delivery trucks when sitting on my balcony.

We had standard, and it faced towards the WL Villas, however, there were woods between and just to the left.........we could see the balconies on the second floor, but not the ground level. We also overlooked the little sandbox area from the kids club. We liked it. We could just about see through the walkway to the arcade, too, and watched our son go to it one afternoon. I was too nervous to let him stay there by himself, though, so we ended up going over there to meet him (he was 9).

If it came down to $230 for a view or a rental car, I would pick the rental car hands down. For the most part, you aren't in your room enough to enjoy the view, but sitting on the balcony is nice. When we were at the WL, the only sitting I did was an hour a day near the pool while my DDs swam I and I had to connect to work with a laptop. In the eve we were either at a park or leaving for dinner, etc.

The rental car allowed us to do SO much more than using Disney transportation. Yes, I understand Disney transportation is free, and many people enjoy their vacations more by using it. But not us. We were able to hop in the car and go directly where we wanted to go without waiting or taking an indirect multi-stop route.

Happy planning!

We stayed one night at the WL, and had booked a standard view room. When we got to our room, we had a pond with ducks right outside our patio, and it was surrounded by trees. It was awesome. We've stayed at AKL four times, and always booked standard rooms, and never had to view the parking lot. Just lucky I guess. Once you get your room assignment, ask them to show you where it is located. If it happens to be in front of the service area, ask nicely if there is any way your room can be anywhere else (but don't ask for a specific view). They will probably accomodate you if it's at all possible. It's usually the people trying to get something for nothing that is annoying for the CMs. I have a friend that works as a front desk cm.

I'd take the chance and book a standard room and get the rental car. You never know what you may get. We found the CM's to be very accommodating at WL. And if you're not happy with the room choice, you could always inquire about an upgrade to a woods view and pay then, if necessary.

We loved having a car, especially if you plan on eating at the resorts. We also used the bus/boat transportation, but having a car gave us so much flexibility with our time. For example, we had dinner reservation at Boma's at AKL, and were there in 10 minutes from WL. You have to leave more time without a car. Have a great time at WL...we now can't wait to go back!!

I'm normally not one to pay extra for a view but back in Oct/Nov. when we went and stayed at WL we had a woodsview room. I asked for 5th floor MK view and that is what we got. It was fantastic. Below us was a duck pond. Every morning I would sit out on the balcony drinking my coffee watching the ducks. It was very peaceful. In the evenings when we were back at the room we sat out on the balcony sipping some wine and were able to watch the fireworks. One night we saw hallowishes and another night we saw wishes. It was incredable.

dfuller...I don't think that was standard view. It sounds like you got upgraded to woodsview. I could be wrong.

Only you can really answer this but I for one don't pay for the upgraded rooms. WL has lots of standard rooms that do not overlook the service area. Also, overlooking the service area isn't too bad unless you look down the whole time. When we had our last stay in a standard, it was right above the service area and I couldn't have asked for a better room. Sit out on the balcony at night and watched the castle change colors as well as the fireworks with an unobstructed view. Now we were on the 6th floor so that may have helped but I think the 4th and 5th floor also had this view. AND there is always the chance you will get upgraded. In all the times I have stayed at WL, I have only gotten standard view once and I just described that view. But, again, only you can know what you will be happy with.

I would and most always book standard view if available. Just a note they don't usually receive delivery's at night and like Ratpack said you would have to look down to see the service area so request 5th or 6th floor. Save the money.

The front desk WL cm's told me that standard rooms are floors 1,2,3. The higher floors are woods view or something else. We were 6th floor, I think, but it was a free upgrade. I have only ever stayed in Lodgeview WOodsview rooms at WL, and LOVE them. But I did book standard, for March, since Mom is paying. Don't want to break her bank, I'd feel too guilty.

IT does face the service area--but if you get high enough, you can see fireworks nightly through the trees.

Next time though--I'll be inclined to splurge on a view of the pool area so we can at least watch the geyser.

ETA: WE have been upgraded to woods view on each of our stays and you can still indeed see the service area if you are facing MK.

Opps!! A former DIS Member that was the room assigner at Wilderness Lodge gave this information to us (WL FAQ Thread) and I have always found the standard rooms to be located in the areas listed:

STANDARD ROOMS: All Non-Smoking rooms with 2 Queen Beds.
Located on Floors 4,5 & 6. On the North(MK) side, they face the service area. There are also 4th floor rooms that overlook the lobby and look out to roof peaks.

Too my knowledge there are no standard view rooms on any of the floors (1,2,3) they told you.

I stayed in a woods view room and it overlooked the covered walkway to the busses. I was not happy but then again right below us way a standard room which was eye level with the roof and not an open balcony

Thank you for all the input. And great info!! Does anyone know if you can get bunbuds if you book standard??? :)

I think they have changed the bunkbeds to only be in the woodsview or courtyard view rooms.

SHoot...our MK-view (above the trees) room over the lobby, we were told was a Woods View and that the floors below us were Standard. Hmmm. Either way, I booked Standard, so Hopefully will get my Wishes view again, I LOVED being over the lobby. Although I am seriously considering upgrading to courtyard view, or something. Mom, who is paying, is a real nature buff.
