Does anyone know how many Standard rooms are at the Wilderness Lodge? Already there aren't any available for October 2008!

Rather than not being available, I bet WDW is just not releasing all those rooms yet. Given that this is the least desirable view category (and cheapest), they are probably also releasing woods and courtyard views earlier to get as many of those booked as possible.

However, I would imagine there are only a handful of standard view rooms. WL is laid out in such a way that the vast majority of their rooms offer either woods or courtyard views.

FWIW, I booked a Woods view room at WL for this October in May. I could have done it as late as August, apparently, as I looked then to make sure I couldn't come up with a cheaper reservation.

If I do recall, all rooms in the main lobby that are above the checkin side (opposite side of Whispering Canyon Cafe) are Standard View. The view is not the greatest but I love having a room overlooking the lobby. If you stay on the other side above WCC, and get the 6'th floor, you can watch the MK fireworks from your balcony. These are woods view rooms

I had the same problem you're having when trying to book rooms online for our trip in February earlier this summer. I e-mail WDW about it and was told to call because the rooms just weren't released online yet but I could book by calling. Before finding out that information the whole process was extremely frustrating.

There are 9 standard view rooms located on the 4th floor off the Lobby. Then there are 39 standard view rooms that are located on the North side of the lodge over looking the service area on floors 4-6, 48 total.

STANDARD ROOMS: All with 2 Queen Beds.
Located on Floors 4,5 & 6. On the North(MK) side, they face the service area. There are also 4th floor rooms that overlook the lobby and look out to roof peaks. Lobby rooms do have balconies.

After reading your post I tried availability for WL deluxe room for Oct 2008 (we have 6 in out family). It also said there were no rooms available for this time. I called WDW travel co and they told me there were no rooms avail. Could this be true? :confused3 I wasn't planning on booking until Dec. or so. Help- we have our hearts set on this resort.

I booked a woods view room August 1, for Sept. 2008, but that was what I requested, as I needed bunk beds. Good luck!
