We were there in Jan 2010, then a couple months ago in Feb 2012. Here are what I thought of our rooms:
Jan 2010, stayed in South wing, 2nd floor (didn't take an elevator, just took the hallway across from the mercantile, and we were in the 2nd to last room, facing the inner courtyard). We had requested "woods view" and were upgraded to pool view. It was gorgeous, and since we were there with freezing temps, not many people were in the pool, although there were a few brave souls who dipped into the heated pool in the icy temps. It was very quiet in this area, and we LOVED it, although we were a LONG walk to Roaring Forks and laundry. (walk all the way through the wing, through the lobby to the other side, down the ramps and into Roaring Forks.)
Feb 2012, stayed in North wing, lower (ground) level. We again had "woods view". I'm not sure if this was an upgrade or not, but it was very woodsy outside our room's patio. Through the foilage, we could see the pool and everyone walking to and from the boat dock. During the EWP, the music in our room was LOUD!!! (last time we didn't even hear it from in our room). This location was ok, and the short walks to Roaring Forks and the bar made it ok, but I preferred the quieter room on the other side. Sure, it was a walk to get stuff, but it felt more "homey" to me, and crowds felt less imposing.
I'm not even sure my experience will help you at all, but I hope it did somewhat.
Also, something I wish I had known before we left... If you bring your own bagels, there's cream cheese on the condiment bar during breakfast. If I had known that, we would have brought bagels to keep in our room and gone to Roaring forks to toast and schmear them before walking down to the docks. (we didn't bring bagels because the thought of bringing our own cream cheese and all the things that could go wrong with that scared me out of the idea. We brought poptarts instead, to DD's delight, and I had granola bars for breakfast each morning we didn't buy a breakfast.)
