Hi. My family (me, hubby, 2 boys (ages 3 and 5) and my parents are staying at the Wilderness Lodge July 29th through August 5th for the first time. We have stayed at the Contemporary, Poly, Shades of Green and Grand Floridian in the past and I have been curious about staying at the Wilderness Resort. I have read a lot of great reviews about it and we are excited.

We booked a courtyard view room. Can anyone give me advice on what rooms are the best to stay within the resort? I have never seen it in person so it is difficult to decide based on a paper map. I was going to ask about staying on a first floor room facing the pool for easy access to and from the pool. Can anyone give me any more advice?

Thanks a million! We just booked the trip yesterday and I am so excited to go!

P.S. We also want to go to Sea World. I assume we should rent a car to do this? I have heard there is public bus service but have never spoken to anyone who used it.

I'll try to give you some input. I have never stayed on the first floor, but from what I have seen, I would not call pool access easy from there. Most of the areas between the patio and the pool are landscaped with rocks, boulders and bushes. You would have to navigate through all of that stuff, as well as the critters (bunnies, ducks, lizards) that like to live in the grass.

We had a courtyard room directly above Artist Point, and we could see the first floor rooms from there. I don't think we saw anyone using the sliding doors to exit and enter their rooms. I'm not saying it doesn't happen, but we didn't see it.

Also, by exiting using the sliding door, you leave your room unsecure (unless someone is staying behind). You cannot lock or unlock the sliding door from the outside. There are exit doors on each wing, so staying on the first floor and using the hallways to get outside is still a lot faster than waiting for elevators.

The WL is not terribly spread out, and most of the courtyard views are really nice. You'll have a great time no matter where they place you. Enjoy!

We stayed at WL last September and loved it. I believe our room was 2701, right off the lobby near the trading post. It was very enjoyable to sit outside in the morning with the ducks and rabbits, etc. We could not get to the pool from there, we had to walk down the hallway a bit and take the walkway to the pool. We were close to the entrance and restaurants, not too much of a walk and the lobby is beautiful to see and enjoy. I happened to be on crutches the first few days and the walk thru the resort did not tire me out at all. The hot tub was great for when I was finally able to ditch the crutches! I think you will love a courtyard view and the resort as well.
