Hello! Right now we have a reservation for a King Room Courtyard View at Wilderness Lodge for 6 nights in December 2022. We stayed at WL back in 2018 and I was pretty disappointed in the room - it felt very dated and grungy and dark. We had cobwebs in lamps and the carpet and baseboards were pretty dirty - I was really caught off guard. I told myself I wouldn't go back until the rooms were updated. I've looked at some videos and pictures of the rooms since they've been updated, but was hoping to get some opinions. Are the updates mostly soft/cosmetic and you still feel like you're in an old room, or does it feel new/clean? Is the Courtyard view worth the extra cost? Is the room noisy if you end up with one that faces the pool? Is there anything different about the King rooms? We were in a double queen last time. Ie. in the Yacht Club some (maybe all?) of the King rooms have a totally different bathroom layout than the double queen. Trying to talk myself into keeping this reservation because I LOVE the feel of the Lodge at Christmas, but I'm hesitant because of my last experience. I love the newness and clean feel of the Riviera rooms and I'm feeling a pull to switch. Any details are appreciated!

All the rooms were redone....as in brand new everything. New floors, new furniture, new bathroom. When we were there in August, it was very very clean and I'm a stickler. We also enjoy the Courtyard room the best, especially if you enjoy spending time outside on the balcony. The only time you may hear some noise is during the day, otherwise, it was great having a view of the pool. I would 1000% keep this reservation, especially since you're going around Christmas. The lodge is much more prettier and cozier than Riviera. Just overall the better choice.

I'm not sure King was/is a bookable category at YC. When King is not a bookable category most (not all) of the king rooms are wheelchair accessible, so yes there tends to be a slightly different layout which is most noticeable in the bathroom. You may well have been in this room-type at YC. WL does have bookable King rooms, so it should be a more regular layout. I can't speak to the upgrades at WL.

Did you like the King YC rooms? I'm considering switching to YC CL , currently booked WL CL for our 3 nights next october. The reason I haven't switched yet is the WL has been recently updated / completely renovated, and the club level gets rave reviews. However the pool at YC is a big draw, we are 4 adults and I love a good lazy river and pool! So it's still a option, I might switch still!

I've stayed at Yacht Club 3 times since the rooms were renovated (2018?). Once we had a 2 queen water view and it's actually my favorite YC room we've stayed in. The overall layout, storage and bathroom set up were fantastic! Big closets for clothes, shower/toilet separate from sink/vanity (separated by a door), overall plenty of bathroom space. After that stay, we were put in a king room for the next two stays. I'm not sure if all King rooms are like this, but in the 2 we were in (one water view, one garden) the room is totally different than the 2 queen we loved. There's less storage and the bathroom is not nearly as functional. The shower, toilet and sink/vanity area are all in one tiny space and the door BARELY shuts with the positioning of the toilet. It makes getting ready a challenge. If we go back to Yacht I will specifically request NOT to be in the King room. Outside of that complaint, though, we do love Yacht Club. Especially for an adults only trip. In our experience, it's one of the quieter and more adult-friendly resorts. I haven't stayed club at either, but I have heard a ton of positive things about the WL club level, though!

Thank you for your thoughts! I really appreciate them. Yes, heard so many great things of WL CL it's what's holding me back from making the switch, especially since we don't have park hoppers for this trip. I will remember to request 2 queen room if I do decide to go Water view YC CL , which is all good actually because I would prefer my own bed without my hubby snoring beside me and hogging the space lol

I'm not a huge fan of courtyard views at WL. I find the rooms to be quite loud. We loved WL CL, however. From our standard view, CL room, we had a lovely view of the monorail and MK fireworks. The rooms at RIV, IMHO, are exquisite. Maybe stay at RIV and have dinner at WL one evening?

Thanks for your perspective! I wouldn't mind waterfall noise, actually would quite enjoy it, but I don't really want pool noise. That potential makes me nervous. I think I'm leaning toward a split stay, similar to what you mentioned. Get a feel for the room/if we like it enough to return for a longer stay, and then switch to Riviera. Because I agree with you on those rooms -- they're probably my favorite on property.
