We are on the verge of booking a package for the later part of next month (July)
If we book a "standard location" room what can we expect? How noisy, etc..... ? Are these rooms directly above the Whispering Canyon? Is it worth the savings over paying extra for a courtyard room?
Can anyone give advice to good room numbers or areas/floors of the hotel which would be a more desirable standard room?

"We can use that money for other things." For the sake of marital harmony I let it ride
, but we now go to the check in desk together! No, I'm not a control freak, really I'm not (well, I guess I am, a little!
).

We booked standard and got an upgrade to a beautiful woods view. I was in heaven. I did not care one bit that the resort was not a monorail resort (I have come across some Deluxe snobbiness, which I thought only existed between the three tiers of resorts). We will definitely be back to stay some time in the future. Enjoy it while you are there- you will miss it when you leave!
We don't spend that much time in the room anyway though! But I'll have to ask if they have any upgrades available when we check in!
