Hi All-

We are headed to Wilderness Lodge in two weeks for 3 days. It is our first visit there, BW is our home, and our usual stop. Any tips, things to look for at Wilderness Lodge? Thanks for your help!

From the CM who checks you in get a hidden mickey search sheet
Watch the Water Pagent parade on the beach of WL (it was at 9:30pwhen we were there). Find a little nook in the lodge and sit an admire the beauty of it. ENJOY!:p

when you check in, ask if there are any openings for you to be the flag family one morning while you are there. If there are, then definitely sign up for it!! It's a fantastic experience. You get to go up way above the lobby and look down, and then go up on the roof to raise the flags, which gives you a truly spectacular vantage point for pictures of both the lodge grounds and the rest of Disney World. I would definitely recommend asking about it when you check in.

We're staying at WLV next month for the first time. I know that there's a boat to MK, and buses to the other parks. We'll have our car, and will use valet parking. In our shoes, what would be the best way to get to each of the parks? How about DTD? How about the Contemporary (for Chef Mickey's)?

WOW! The flag ceremony sounds really neat. My kids and DH would love to have that opprotunity. I will definately make a note of it. Just another reason to stay at VWL!

In the morning they do a "Secrets of the Lodge" tour, takes about an hr,think it started at 9:30. It's free and informative.

Jimbo- We stayed at VWL last year and had our car but didn't use it until we checked out. The ferry will take you over to MK, the buses will take you to the other parks. The front desk can give you the bus schedule and we found them to be very prompt and not very crowded (at least in the morning). The ferry also has a stop at the Contempory for your character breakfast.

Excuse me........ just my two cents

There is TOUR in the lobby every morning. Ask the CM when you check in what time it gathers, AND DON'T missit !!! Best off, it is FREE, and very interesting lasts about 20 minutes. You'll thank me for pointing this out to you if you do it.

Have Fun !

Dave-

Approx. what time has this tour started in the past? I know DH would love to do it but would not want to take away from park time.

If I recall correctly, in March 2002 when I did it, it was 8 AM.

another neat thing about wilderness lodge...rent a bike (surreys are most fun) and follow the path to the campground. If you have young kids there is a petting zoo and horse rides there! Just another way you feel like you are in your own little world inside of Disney's World.

And one addition to the electric water pageant tip. Pop some popcorn in your microwave and bring it with you to the beach to watch the show. Very fun!

We just got back from 1st trip to WLV. MK boat is great! Busses to other parks run well also. Downside is they stop at FW most times and Poly and GF also. My advice: If a bus comes in for TTC before bus to Epcot catch TTC and get on monorail. At least it seems faster. DTD bus is slow no matter what, but I have found that to be true at All Star Sports and they have great bus tranportation reputation.

Dump the kid(s) (if you have any) at the Cubs Den if they're young enough (or tell them to scram if old enough), and take the wife for a nice dinner at Artist Point one evening. Get a table with a nice window view and a good bottle of wine.

Wow! Thanks for all of the great ideas.....I'm curious about riding a bike to the campground. My daughter loves that, and we always rent one when we are at BW. How far of a ride is it to the campground? We stayed at the cabins a few years ago, and we enjoyed the things to do there...the movie and campfire at night, Hoop-Dee Doo. Thanks again for the ideas!

The ride to the campground is quite easy--all along a paved bike trail. I would say less than 5 minutes and a really pretty ride!!

We did a surrey bike that way last January. Our then 7 yo sat between us and the then 3 yo sat in the basket and rang the bell at everyone we passed. The horses at the petting farm even have Mickey brands on them. It was a nice leisurely morning for us.

Enjoy!!!

Yes! Look for me, if you are going to be there anytime between 1/21 and 1/31!

We might be able to do the tour this time. We have 2 'late' mornings hopefully they will have the tour on one fo those days! The bikes sound interesting too. We have one day planned for DTD so would have some 'free' that afternoon. hmmm

I would definitely go to Artist Point for dinner one night. It is one of my family's favorite restaurants in WDW and that includes the kids!
Also, the water pageant was a nice relaxing evening activity. We've been going to WDW for I can't tell you how many years, and this year was the first time we saw it. It was very relaxing sitting on the beach. We wore jackets, as it was a cool evening, and stretched out on the lounge chairs on the beach. It was a nice end to a wonderful day.:D
