Has anyone that's booked through the uk website been notified of the pool closure? If anyone has spoken to disney have they had any luck modifying their bookings?

I know of someone on a different board (US) who has got this issue and not been able to modify. I believe the pool at the Contemporary is been opened up for WL guests. Hardly convenient.....

Just in case.
You may use the pools at Fort Wilderness and Contemporary Resort while the WL pool is closed.
Transportation is provided.

you can still call to make an amendment and change resorts, but if the resulting price is lower than your original booking you might be charged £50 for the amendment.
They might waive the fee if you argue that it's because of the pool closure, but since Disney provides transportation and alternate pools, it's not very likely
you can't make any amendment within 14 days of check in.

Call them, you'll have a more definitive answer than asking on the fourm (it there's such a thing as a definitive answer with Disney, lol)

are both pools at WL closed? If its just the main one there is the other one around the side between the WL and the DVC side..

Thanks guys, funnily enough an email came through within half hour of writing this! At least I now have the number to call

we haven't been notified but having spotted on the boards what was going on, writing a cross email and phoning back a few times we have finally managed to move - reluctantly mind you.

Closure is scheduled September 3rd through November 27th

I think this pool is for dvc members only. There is no gate access to the pool but would have thought they would have said if hotel guests can use the pool at the villas.
Its apparently closed from 3/9/14 till november. Not good when people have booked the hotel and cannot use the pool. Having to get the bus to the contemporary is not a good option in my opinion

The other pool is not restricted to DVC members, guests at WL can use the pool anytime. WL is our favourite resort and I have stayed a few times but have to say, if the main pool was to be closed when I was planning a holiday I would definitely be looking elsewhere. The pool at the WL villas is very small and more than likely be mobbed by mid morning. As pointed out earlier, getting the boat or bus to use the pools at CR or FW is hardly convenient.

If you or your family spend a reasonable amount of time at the hotel pool I would be looking elsewhere until the renovation is complete.

I was not sure if it was ok for guests to use. I agree its very small and as its our home resort we always use the main pool. Its good for those who want to stay at the lodge but as with most of us we like to have a break in our days to chill by the pool etc. i wonder why they dont choose the cooler months to do pool refurbs???

Managed to speak to someone today and got changed to the beach club, hope we have made the right decision

That's great! Did you have to pay extra or did Disney pay the difference since it's their fault?

I think if you read the small print you will find they do say this can happen. I would hate it too but I'm not sure technically you would win a 'your fault' argument. I changed hotels once at no extra charge due to a CS good court closure but I had to go through several cast members before I got to one who would do it and it was only because they found a same price room at a different resort.

Yeah I figured they probably had it in the small print. Wasn't sure if they'd offer to move people as a good will gesture though.

I must admit we used it all the time when we went in Sept a few years back. It was always empty. Bet it isn't going to be now though. Used the hot tub around there as well. I didn't see a sign that said for DVC members only but must admit I did feel a tad guilty!!:confused3

Don't feel guilty. Its not an exclusive to not use dvc pools. We dont walk round with we are dvc members badges on lol.Makes no odds to me who uses the pools at the villas . Some are quite snobby but before being a member I paid my money like everyone else to stay onsite so you should be able to swim where you want to if you are at a hotel that has dvc accommodation. Anyway I rent my points if im not using them as is a lot cheaper to stay at deluxes via points than cash and its nice to help others out . I still love pop as it was our first ever on site and would stay there over 2 of the deluxes any day.
