Wilderness Lodge - No Negative Reviews?

Well, after conversing with my family, I kind of take that comment back:

Here's what happened-
I went with my mom to WL for the 1st time a few years ago and when the bellman took us to our room, it was a courtyard view (so it was on one of the wings of the main building) it was like a 10 minute trek, all the way down past roaring forks, then to the very end of the hallway, right next the the emergency exit. At first glance, it was a dark, semi-creepy room. My mom wasn't too keen on two women being stuck in a fairly un-safe spot..... but when i talked to her about it today she said that in retrospect it was alright because we were close to the pool and the cafeteria.... just in my opinion, there are nicer places to be at the WL.

We'll be staying at WL for our Grand Gathering in late November. We were thinking of POR as we wanted something a little nicer than a value without breaking the bank, but DH took one look at a pic of the WL and announced that he didn't care where the rest of us were staying, HE was staying at WL. So WL it is...just have to work some more overtime to pay it off! :rotfl:

I have been reading a lot of comments about the rooms being smaller as compared to the other deluxes. Correct me if I'm wrong, but isn't the WL the lowest-priced deluxe? It seems like if you're paying less, you shouldn't expect a room on quite the same level as the other deluxes. JMO of course. Personally room size doesn't bother me all that much (but then again, I'm used to living in cramped quarters, lol). We're going for the awesome theming and the decorations! :thumbsup2 And of course, to enjoy a magical experience with our extended family. :grouphug:

Also JMO again, a 15-20 minute boat ride would not phase me at all. It would probably take just as long to wait for a bus and be driven over, so why not take the scenic route? We're really looking forward to utilizing the boat ride, and if it stops at FW first that would actually work out well for us since we have part of our Gathering staying over there! :thumbsup2

I have never stayed at the WL but are DVC for VWL, so as far as the rooms go, I can't speak (although my kids would love the bunk beds versus the pullout couch).

I LOVE LOVE LOVE the resort grounds but there are a couple downers..
1. The pool is too warm in the summer months, almost like bath water so it's not refreshing.
2. Agree about the pool chairs. Not many of them.
3. RF does not have a huge selection (but like that they added the sandwich station..yummm).

That's really all I can think of...It's a heck of a walk from the VWL to RF and since the transportation area's are not immediatly near RF, we have to make an effort to go there. I would like to be able to swing in and refill my mug or get a snack without it being so far out of the way.

That being said...I LOVE this resort and can't imagine not staying there.

We love the Lodge too. I suppose the rooms at WL are smaller, but when I look at the online pics of the other deluxes they don't really seem $100 worth of larger. The size of the room didn't bother me even when the kids were younger and we spent more time in the room.

I do agree that it can be hard to find a chair at the pool...and it would be sweet if Disney would add WL to the monorail loop.

Just stayed at VWL for NYE this year. I have no complaints. Upon arrival about 11:00, we were told that our room was ready and we could check in immediately. It was great. We had just flown overnite across country and it was so nice to be able to go to our room and freshen up before our ADR. The only thing I would do differently in the future is I would stay for more than 1 nite and I would request a room not on the ground floor. Our view was just of a service road and a little wooded area. I love being able to go out on a balcony. Other than that, the WL is a beautiful resort- great setting, wonderful theming, fantastic pool, easy access to MK. I love it.
