We are at the WL right now and noticed a small staircase and a balcony over the lobby above the concierge flor 7. Anyone know what floor 7 1/2 is? Is it a suite? Thanks!

It's the staircase that leads to the area where you go out on the roof to raise the flags. When we stayed club level a year ago they brought the Flag Family up to the 7th floor and then they climbed up that staircase out to the roof. When we were in our room we could see the area on the roof where the family went to raise the flags. We also saw people up there at night watching Wishes. Not sure how people were able to do that... Maybe they were CM's...

Yup, it takes you to the roof. There is a long hallway and they have a picture of Ranger Stan framed in there as well. Once you go up those stairs and through the hallway, there are a couple other sets of stairs, then you get up to the roof. We had the priveledge of going up to the roof to watch the fireworks. It was awesome!
1) The stairway is a private route to the roof.
2) I have taken it many times to raise and lower the flags.
. . . raising is done with "The Family Of The Day"
. . . great for photos of all parks (only place one can see 4-parks)
. . . lowering is done by a CM without guests
. . . sometimes guests are invited to watch fireworks from the roof
3) To Roof
. . . elevator to 7th floor
. . . walk to stairs
. . . climb stairs to hallway
. . . walk outside to roof
. . . short flight of metal stairs to upper roof
NOTE: There is no handicap access to roof. One must
be able to climb the steps. Sometimes this upsets
the selected "Family Of The Day" when some member
of their party cannot attend. Plus, only five guests
and the CM may go up to raise the flags.
EDIT: Guests do not have to be staying Club Floor to
be Family of the Day or get Wishes views.
As PP said, you can arrange to watch Wishes from the WL roof. Not sure of the requirements, but on the WL FAQ thread there is a discussion about it. I think it's unadvertised and reserved for special events. For instance, one person on that thread is getting married and they are attempting to arrange this for their wedding night.

This was offered to my family last August. We were waiting in line at the concierge desk in the main lobby to print our HDDR tickets and a manager came over and asked if there was anything we needed assistance with. That reminded me to ask about being a Flag Family. So she got a big binder and looked at all the mornings we would be there and they were all full. I thanked her for checking and my mom and I proceeded to wait to get our tickets. Well, she came back over and asked what we were doing one night (it was a Friday night), and it happened that we had nothing but dinner at 'Ohana planned for 5pm that particular evening. So when we said we were free, she asked if we would like to watch Wishes from the roof.
I WAS BEYOND THRILLED! This was pixie dust ~ being in the right place at the right time ~ not having any expecations.
So that is how we got to see the fireworks from the WL roof. We didn't arrange it beforehand. It was offered to us. Like magic!
