I know they are free, but how hard is it to snag a cabana in the morning at the BR pool?

I believe it is somewhat dependent on the season but in our stays the past few years the cabana's are typically the first to go. If you are traveling at a less busy time- there may still be one or two in the morning. In a busier time they are gone shortly after the pool opens in the morning.

Do people "claim" them by putting towels and stuff down and then leave the pool area??

We are going in January and hoping for warm weather in the afternoon to swim during our break. It would be nice to have a cabana but I'm guessing since we wouldn't be out there until maybe 2:00 or later, they will be occupied, right?

You should not "claim" one if you aren't going to use it for hours. If I went to the pool and saw towels there but no one occupying it for more than an hour, I'd assume the people left and would consider it fair game. I did once see a Disney CM walk around the BRV pool and ask if anyone in the pool was using the cabana (that just had towels in it). No one said yes, so she removed them.

Okay, good. That's what I was hoping. I think it's annoying if people go down early, throw towels down, and then head to the parks or something. I'm glad it seems like that isn't allowed.

So maybe we'll luck out and get one!

We were able to get one when we went to the pool around 11am. And I was happy to see the CM checking use of the cabanas!

Many times i just see towels in them. I assume people think they can just leave their used towels and the fairy godmothers come around and pick them up, so I put them in the towel bin and use the lounger/cabana/etc for as long as I want it. I have never had someone approach me accusing me of taking "their" lounger. Often times people who are selflish are also cowards.
