OK here is my problem. We are going to the beach the second week of August this year and my DH just said why don't we go a week earlier and take the kids back to DW....YIPEE:) So I have started looking into everything. Of course we are all over the place with picking a resort. I think we make up our minds then we start thinking it all over again. It will be me DH, DS(3) and DS(8). My 8 year old would love to stay at the "Lincoln Log" place this is what he calls Wilderness Lodge but when we went to DW in 1999 we ate at the Whispering Canyon and can not even tell you how much we HATED it:( I know some people love it we just didnt get it. Food was horrible and service was pretty close to that. Of course we did think the resort was beautiful but I just can't separate the hotel from that experience. I keep thinking we will be in the lobby and hear all that going on over there and be miserable. Should we look elsewhere and if so what do you recommend?? Also has anyone stayed here who didn't care for Whispering Canyon but ended up liking the resort??

Thanks in advance:)

P.S. We have stayed at All Star Music and Movies before and the Poly due to closing of French Quarter. We loved the Poly but just not in the budget this time. We are open to a moderate but just aren't sure which one.

I'd request a room in the wings away from the lobby. I like the WL but the Whispering Canyon is "over the top" for my family. After a busy day I like to relax for meals. There are so many people who love it...I just don't think it's for everyone.

While we love the Wilderness Lodge. We were not into all the hoop de doo of Whispering Canyon. We ask for a quiet table. And we were seated in a different area.

I think you can seperate the hotel experience from the restaurant experience.

The only moderate we have stayed at is PO-FQ. And we really enjoyed it a lot.

While I've never stayed at WL or eaten at Whispering Canyon, my advice would be to not let the resort's restaurant put you off. Whispering Canyon is not the only restaurant at the hotel, there's Roaring Forks & Artist Point. Plus with Disney transportation, you have unlimited restaurants a hop, skip and a jump away.

If you are not interested in all the Hoop De Doo and want something more quiet DO NOT go to the Whisper Cayon.

i stayed there in may 2004.
it was my first time staying there and i loved it! my parents are dvc members and wilderness lodge is their home hotel.
as for whispering cannon, if you really dont like it you dont have to eat there! it is one of my favorite places to eat at the world!

i love the wilderness lodge so much that we are getting married there may 21, 2005 and having our reception at the whispering cannon.

We ate at Whispering Canyon for the first time this xmas vacation. I loved it and thought the waiter was a riot. The table next to us had the same waiter and they just seemed to be able to tolerate him. To each his own. It's all in your attitude. ;)

We stayed at the WL this January and absolutely loved our courtyard room, the lobby, pool, shopping, beautiful surroundings and resort location. We ate at Whispering Canyon twice, more because of the convenience and fun dining experience, rather than the food. The quality was average, and the selection somewhat limited, but the servers really try to make eating out a fun and eventful experience for children.

You'll certainly find the cuisine and atmosphere more refined at Artist Point, but which experience do you think your children would prefer? If you want a better selection, WL is only a short bus/TTC/monorail ride to some of the most diverse dining options available at the GF, PR and CR.

With literally hundreds of dining choices available, you should really not let one restaurant influence your entire decision of which resort to choose. I don't think anyone is staying at the All-Stars or Pop Century resorts because of the food courts...
