I know that the WL is not directly on the monorail but could someone tell me approximately how long a walk it would be to the closest entrance to the monorail? We're thinking of changing our reservation from Coronado Springs to WL for that reason alone so we can get baby back for naps. Thanks!

It would be a long walk and there probably are not any sidewalks. WL has a boat to MK and direct buses to the other parks. You will be able to take the baby back for a nap wherever you stay on-site.

You can not walk to the monorail from the WL. However the WL is conected to the MK via boat and to the CR via boat at which point you could get to the monrail.

Out of curiosity, how is the bus transportation from Wilderness Lodge? Are the buses shared with another resort, and if so, in what order are Wilderness Lodge guests picked up/dropped off?

Amy

The Wilderness Lodge sits on Bay Lake and you can't walk to the Magic Kingdom or a monorail (unless you can walk on water!)
Transportation from the Wilderness Lodge to the Magic Kingdom is by boat. The Wilderness Lodge also has a boat that goes over to the Contemporary Hotel. Only the Contemporary, Polynesian, and Grand Floridian resorts have the monorail to the Magic Kingdom.

I think you could also catch a bus to the transportation/ticket center from the Wilderness Lodge and take the monorail in (somebody may correct me on this if I'm wrong, but it seems like we did this once).

The boat launch is a pleasant ride across Bay Lake back and forth to the lodge!

Just curious with a baby and time being of the essence when a nap is needed, would it be feasible to take the boat from MK to WL and back? I assume they run fairly frequentlY??? Also, what's the best way to get to epcot from WL?

you'd take a bus to Epcot; which in some ways is much easier than the monorail now that they discontinued the resort express monorail to Epcot that they had years ago (boy do i miss that thing!) and you have to change trains at the TTC.

Take the bus to Epcot, MGM, and there should be a MK bus from WL too isn't there???

Most babies fall asleep on the bus ride LOL mine never slept in the car at home, but she fell asleep on WDW busses!

have a great trip and welcome to DIS!

One thing we loved about WL was taking the boat to MK. You are let off the boat basically right in front of the bag security check(maybe 20 feet in front of them). You aren't walking from the busses or the monorail. I think its easier than staying anywhere else.

We are staying at Poly in Sept. We will probably use the monorail going to MK and the boat (shares with GF) to get back to Poly. WL and FW share a boat too.

You will love WL. Since everything is under one building, whereas CSR everything is so spread out.

Thanks for all of your replies - even the swimming comment :earseek: I think I will change to WL - it seems far easier than Coronado Springs = plus we are spending the other 4 nights of our vacation at AKL so we can cover the theme parks around there during that time. Can't wait!!

One last thing - where would I be able to find the boat and bus schedules from WL to Epcot and MK??

Just wanted to let you know that you can roll the stroler onto the boat for the WL and not disturb your baby.

You always had to change trains at TTC. Possibly you were staying at POLY, followed the signs and wound up at the TTC instead of the POLY station in the GCH.

Last Nov, WL shared the bus with Campers at Fort Wilderness. The pick up at the northern part of the campground wasn't bad, but when the bus had to go to the Southern part of the campground, it did seem to take forever. I preferred when we shared the bus with Poly and GF folks.

lmk

There are two seperate boat schedules for Wilderness Lodge. The Blue Flag Resort Boats operate from 7:00am-10:00pm. These are small boats that run from WL, CR & Ft. Wilderness continuously (you would need to fold a stroller to ride one of these smaller boats)

The Large Green Flag boat starts running about 40-30 minutes before the Magic Kingdom opens (yes on EMH (8:00am) it will still start around 7:20am. For normal openings (9:00am)it will start around 8:20am) In the mornings the large Green Flag boats will start picking-up guest at Ft. Wlderness Campground then the Wilderness Lodge then Magic Kingdom in the afternoon the route reverses Magic Kingdom then Wilderness Lodge then Ft. Wilderness Campground. If you return to the Lodge in the afternoon your first stop will be the Lodge, but if you decide to return to the Park later you will have to ride to Ft. Wilderness Campground then the Magic Kingdom. You may just roll your stroller on this large boat no need to fold it up.

Earlier this summer we shared a bus route with the Grand Floridian, this didn't add much time to the ride...but we have also shared the bus with FT. Wilderness Campground on other trips...which does add an addition 10 minutes to your bus ride to MGM, AKL & EPCOT. We have taken the Inter Resort Bus to TTC and just riden the Monorail to EPCOT...we always wait and see which bus comes first if the Resort Bus comes we take the Monorail if the bus to EPCOT arrives first we just take it...WL and Ft. Wilderness share this inter resort bus and are the only resorts that have bus service to TTC.

Hope this helped.

i remember distinctly when epcot first opened (we're talking eons ago LOL) that we were able to take the monorail straight from the CR. They didn't keep it that way for long, but everyone in my family remembers it was once that way It was so easy!

Then i remember it going to there being a monorail from the resorts that didn't stop at MK, just the TTC and you switched to the Epcot train.

i just wish there was a way to get there without changing monorails...i think it's easier to take the bus from a resort like WL!

Are you sure about that? The Epcot beam is not accessible from the Contemporary. Even from the Exterior beam (MK Express), it requires going the opposite direction, through the MK, GF, Poly, and then stopping at the TTC for the switch beam. The switch is a time consuming process, and guests are not allowed to be in the train as it traverses the switches.
