Was wondering if anyone on the Dis could tell me about the Wilderness Explorer Ceremony (I think that's what it's called?) in DCA. The Disneyland website mentions it but des not describe it. Thanks in advance!

Basically cm leads kids on parade then you practice your "caw caw roar" then we help Russell listen for Kevin (whose head sometimes pops up out of the tent structure--doesn't always work) then I think they do the pledge and get to meet Russell. It's closed right now so changes are always possible after a long closure. It's very cute and they get a sticker badge. Ds4 likes it a lot and I enjoy how he feels he's really getting his badge. Cm's in that area are great.
They did a whole thing last Christmas where u become an elf and give u an elf name. It replaced the wilderness explorer ceremony during Xmas but my son loved it too. I think the we ceremony is better but a nice temp change

Sounds cute! Glad your little guy liked it. It may be a stop on our upcoming next trip!

Does anyone know if, in order to participate, the kids have to have completed the entire challenge? What does the challenge include? I've got a 6 yr old and an almost 3 year old, and I'm wondering if both of them would be able to complete everything

Nope. Anyone can watch or participate. I think only kids in the ceremony.

For those that have done this, what age range do you feel it's most geared towards?

My DD5 loves it. She's too short for two activities, but they don't care for the ceremony. I'd say 5-8 is the target range for the activities. My DS 18 mos loves just wandering around the area though. Wish we hadn't walked right by on so many visits before checking it out.

There is an upper height limit I think for the tire swing but other than that I think some will work for most any age. There's a slide with lots of spots a parent can sit and a lots to look at for the younger ones too. Even if you don't do the activities the area is fun and a peaceful spot in the park

I can't wait to check this out. My family is going to disneybound as characters from Up on our next trip, and we will definitely hit this on our dress up day (both my kids will be dressed as Wilderness Explorers, for instance).
