Has anyone ever stayed at the Wilderness Cabins. I'm considering it for our group of 5 but I've never heard from anyone that's actually stayed there. Advice, opinions, all appreciated!

yes I've stayed their and I loved it.. ask for loop 1300 or 1400 thats neer the sing along and a pool.. and the store.. we have a family of 5 as well, this time we are going to be their in September,, They are very clean,, enough space to wear your not on top of eachother like the rooms 2 tv's found that to be great with a large family.. the only downside is that you have to either rent a cart or take bus to place to place on property,, its not a long trip and busses come often.. so we didnt' find it a problem and if you stay in aloop close enough to walk to the fun stuff you'll be fine.. this is a great place for people with children.. they have a craft activity everyday and of course the beach pools like 4 play areas, and the nightly movie and sing along.. Highly recommended.. plus if your family is as loud as mine you don't have to worry because your not attaced to anyone elses room.. porch is nice with picnic table too.. you'll be pleasantly supprised I was I was thinking yuck cabin,,no way smelly musty.. yuck,, not even close very very high end.. lots of towells and linens on hand decent size bathroom, and the trundle bed is even comfortable and kithcen is great it has everything and anything you would ever think of needing.. again it is spotless.. you should go..

We did 6 of us (4 adults, 2 kids) in 2005. We would not do it again, only due to bathroom issues with our in laws. We needed a 2nd bathroom and was an issue for us.

Now, removing that, it was wonderful! We did rent a cart and feel you sort of have to do that to enjoy the resort and to not waste even more time on buses. The cabin had plenty of room outside the bathroom. The deck and outdoor bbq made for a few great nights. While the main pool is not all done with slides and stuff, we liked it a bunch. The lifeguards always had kid games going and we just relaxed a ton while there.

Having a full kitchen was a big bonus for us also. Just made the vacation very easy. If you are going with 5 from the same family I think it is perfect and better then say the new family suites.

We stayed in December. I'm not sure that I would go back. Value-wise, it's terrific. I didn't find the transportation system difficult, in fact, my SIL loved it (but then, they live in Seattle and use public transportation a lot). It was very quiet and cute. In fact, at Christmas many people decorated their cabins and RVs. There was a nice "vibe" there that I really enjoyed.

One big plus: If there are kids in your group, they can run around and make noise and not disturb anyone. For that reason only, we may go back.

But, it wasn't that clean. I could have complained, but some of the issues were really beyond a normal room cleaning and with two families settled into cabins next door to each other, I didn't feel like moving. You might try posting this question on the camping board--they're really helpful over there.

Good luck.

We have stayed in the Fort Wilderness Cabins a couple of times and we loved them. We are a family of 5. We put the children in the bedroom with the full size bed and the bunk bed set. Each had their own bed. DH and I slept on the Murphy bed in the Living Room. It was very comfortable. In this way, we could put the kids to sleep in the bedroom and we had the whole living/dining/kitchen area to relax in and watch TV until we were ready for sleep. It was wonderful.
I loved having the fully equipped kitchen and full size fridge. We ate breakfast in each morning which saved us a lot of time and money. We chose not to cook in the evening but we easily could have.
We did not have an issue with only one bathroom. It was fine for us.
Fort Wilderness is a beautiful campground and there are plenty of things to do. We loved the beach and the pool, we rented Water Mice and had a blast. We did not make the nightly campfire, but I am sure that is a lot of fun too.
On one trip we rented a golf cart and on one we did not. Having the golf cart was fun. The kids saw it as an adventure, like a "ride" unto itself.
We also had a car on one trip. Having the car was very convenient. We drove to all parks except for the MK. The only downside, in my opinion, is the fact that you need to take an internal bus to the external bus stops. Having either the golf cart or a car solved that problem. It is do-able without, but it takes a bit longer.
Have a Great Trip.

Question..................
When people say you can rent a golf cart, How much is it? Do you park it outside your cabin? Do you drive them to the bus stop and park them at bus stop?

If I remember correctly they were pretty pricey. ~40/day. You can drive them to the 2 (settlement & meadow) post where you can park them but there is nowhere to park them around the general bus stops.

Was there in Dec/07.....$48/day after tax I think, but prices may have gone up in the new year.
We loved the cabins for 5 of us, bus service internally was good but a bit of a timewaster if heading to the parks as you would then have to go to the main bus depot and wait again, but very nice place to stay.
A golf cart is a MUST for one day at least at Xmas time just to cruise the park and see all the displays that are set up by the other campers/RVers.:thumbsup2 :cool1: :thumbsup2 :cool1:
