We are currently booked at POR, I am however obsessed with staying at the Wilderness Cabins. My DH says that it will be better for my grandmother to stay at POR bc she will have access to the two hotels restaurants and such, and walking around, she will not be going to any parks with us. There are 6 of us all together, so, it has to be one of theses two places, what do you think?

I love camping, and I think the cabins look so comfy, and of course, all the extra room!

DH also continues to remind me how far away from everything it is......:confused3

The cabins would give you more room. FW is actually very close to POR. If you can afford to add a golf cart to the plan, your mom could use that at FW, making everything at FW only a few minutes from the cabin, and WL is just an internal (settlement orange) bus ride right from you loop, making more available to her. MK is just a boat ride away. If you have a car you can park it right at your cabin, no wondering around a crowded lot at night.

I have to agree with your DH, if your grandma is staying back at the room while you guys are in the parks she will be isolated in the FW cabins.

I'm thinking it would be kinda lonely at the cabins and no place to "go" for her unless she heads over to where General Store is....:confused3 is she one to wander about, like to go to general store?
There is no food court there, will she be cooking her meals while you are gone all day at parks?? WIll she just hang in cabin and just watch tv???
I think POR would be better actually...at main area is a lovely seating area and also the Piano show on certain nights would be fun for all of you, plus a restaurant a Great food court and ability to take boat to DTD, active AND quiet pools, just a really lovely resort to take a stroll, great general store too, but thats just me.......... POR addicted..:rotfl2:
Have a wonderful stay wherever you decide! :wizard:

Okay..do I understand you to mean you all will be staying in one room at POR? :confused3 That's a lot of people in one room.

If that's the case...I think you should stay in the cabins. I was looking at the ages of your children as well. All pretty little. I'm assuming grandma is along to help out and baby sit some as well?...
If you can..I would look into the option of renting a golf cart..(by the way if you head over to the camping forum, someone can probably recommend an off site rental that is way less expensive than the Disney rentals).
I don't see three adults, and three kids in a POR room. Too small.
At least with the cabins you'll have a separate bedroom area, and then the murphy bed in the living room.

There is no way they could be staying all in one room-Disney is very strict about the number of people in a room (5 is max at POR.) We have 6 in our family, and we are staying at POR in two rooms.

I am about to post some comments on a recent Cabins stay, see them for the details but I would go with 2 hotel rooms if I was you. The Cabins are nice but if I was in your situation I would prefer having 2 rooms (and 2 bathrooms). 6 is a lot in the Cabins when everyone is there. Also they are indeed isolated, a golf cart is a must imo (at 60$/nt).

:scratchin If I remember correctly we had 5 people in the Caribbean Beach..as long as one was under three years of age. Now, I thought that the POR trundle bed rooms would accomodate 5 guests, and then another if they are under three. :confused3

In any case, if they are staying in one room..then I would recommend the cabins. If the OP is staying in two rooms at POR..I would recommend sticking with that. If nothing else you also have the convenience of having two bathrooms and more privacy.

I thought that some of the POR rooms had an occupancy level of 5 and then allow one child under the age of three? If that is true they could stay at POR with six people

Sorry-yes, IF one is under 3-that is right. (That is the case at all the resorts.)

It appears that the oldest of three children would be 3. In the OP's signature it has the ages of her children as 1, 2, and 3.
I imagine it is possible for them all to stay in one room at the POR, although I think that would be tight.

Ya'll just made me realize my siggy is confusing!

I have 3 DD's: when we travel they will be 5, 1 and 10 months, so, that is how we are all staying in one room.

My 82 year old grandmother is going to babysit and help out with the babies. She will go to MK one day to watch my 5 year old at BBB.princess:princess: That is about it! :)

Even though she is 82, she is an active 82 year old. She just has no desire to go to the parks. (Which, I totally understand.) She does enjoy food, and such, so we are getting her the dining plan so she can go to dinner with us, and eat a quick lunch while we are at the parks. She will be by herself daily until we come back after lunch for naps and such. I think she will want to get out and about and people watch. She doesn't swim, so the pools don't really matter to her. Then we will take ODD back to the parks at night, or to DTD and she will stay at the hotel with the tiny baby.:cutie:

I guess in my mind I am thinking about the "more room" aspect. I completely wish we could have two rooms, but, that is not in the budget, and I don't feel comfortable with two different rooms with the age of my grandmother and my DD's.

Looks like our next trip might have to be at the Fort! I am dying to stay there. I am begging DH to pull our camper down next spring! I promised to cook him lots of his favorite meals!

 Okay..gotcha..two of the kids ar still under three..so you're in one room at POR.

Personally..it's gonna be very tight in a POR room for six people.

I'd go with the cabins. If grandma isn't going to the parks with you though, the dining plan is tough to use at the Fort. You can get food for the cabin though. The cabins offer a full kitchen, complete with dishwasher. If she's as active as you say, then she might want to take the internal bus to the Main themed pool area, and get a bite to eat there...or up front to the Settlement area and eat at the Trails End.
Just that the dining plan options are limited, when at the Fort. (They really need to put a food court in there, but that's another thread all together).
Now if she'd be willing to drive a golf cart..she'd have an easier time getting around.
I think the cabins can work nicely, especially with little ones. They have some freedom to roam around. As you do have a nice sized deck outside. Which is nice when the kids are napping.
In the evenings you can watch the fireworks over the MK from the beach at the Fort. There's also the nightly Electric Water Pagent that performs on Bay Lake. Not to be missed.
There's a new themed pool as well, with a splash play area for the little ones. Not to mentioned you have pony rides, that your five year old is sure to love. You do have bike rentals, and there is a marina for mousesprite, or pontoon boat rentals to use on Bay Lake. The MK is a just a water launch away. Given the ages of the kids..I assume you'll be spending most of your time there.
Oh, and if you can finances allow .the Hoop Dee Doo Revue, is held in Fort Wilderness, and is very entertaining, funny dinner show.
If you are interested in the cabins, you might want to take a look over at the camping forum here on the Dis. Lots of info, and folks who are happy to answer any questions you might have about FW. :wizard:

If any kind of discount can be had, 2 rooms at POR should not be much more than a cabin. I cant imagine 6 people including two under 2 in a single room.

You would have a hard time getting around FW with kids that age as well I would think. A golf cart would be near impossible with kids of that age. Mine are several years older and it was dicey.

While I understand you want to stay at the Cabins, it sounds like that there less for your grandmother to do there. I haven't stayed there so I can't comment on that. As far as the POR she will also have the boat to Downtown Disney. That would be a great place for her to shop, eat and sit and people watch.
