Hi,

I am thinking of purchasing tickets for the Wild Africa Trek for my husband's 40th birthday. I have read reviews and it sounds great, but I thought I would ask here and see what you all think!

Thanks!

Yes. It is one of the more expensive tours, but if you've got the money, do it. You've read reviews. Did you read any negative reviews? Nope!

We did ours early, before park opening. It was fun walking back to the Safari area when the park was empty. The tour guides assured that we has a great experience. The food was very good, served as a light lunch.

Yes!!!! We did it last year in October for our anniversary and it has been the best thing we have done on property!!!!

Ive def been wondering too... the pricing.... is it usually a standard price even though it says from like 189-289? or something similar... just wondering how much to save...

Yes!!! Def one of the best extra splurges we ever did. Especially if your husband loves AK as much as we do. The tour was perfect, the guides were wonderful, and the lunch was really neat.

I definitely recommend it! We went back in 2013 during tropical storm Andrea (ie it was pouring rain the entire time) and it was still amazing! Also, as noted, they do it rain or shine, so if it's raining don't forget the rain gear!

This was our soggy group :)

DH has done it twice he loved it so much. Me, DS& DDiL joined him for the second tour. It was amazing.

I would say, one time yes, any more than that no.

Try to get a discounted price. We got a discount thru DVC. I expect other groups may have discounts. Also different times of the year and different times of the day are less expensive.
It was a neat tour but I would not have wanted to pay full price for it. As PP said it's worth it once but not twice, at least for me!!

For me the best part was when we took a break for lunch and just sat at the observation platform with a quite, relaxing view of the grounds and some animals. My wife liked the food but I'm a picky eater so it was not for me. We did have some slightly better viewpoints and actually stopped along the same tour route with a couple different pull offs. The disappointing part of the tour was at almost every stop we made to animal watch / photos, the regular tour trucks would pull up and stop sometimes right in front of our truck temporarily blocking our view. It was very odd. We wore safety harnesses for the first part of the tour. I understand the reason and need for the harnesses but it still was a little much!

The CMs were very nice and knowledgeable. I enjoyed speaking with them. We were not rushed and it was a nice slow paced tour.

My wife liked it and I would happily go again with her if she wanted, but other than that I would not do it again.

No I would not. The guides on our tour were college age girls. They were informed but I would not consider expert commentators. The lunch was ok. We saw the very same animals you see on the Safari ride. Really I was kinda let down. Thought there would be something we'd see or do that you couldn't on the regular ride. Nope, we didn't other than lunch. Save your money.

The price varies by time of year, and certain times (April through Oct 22 this year) there is a $50 discount for booking the tours at 11:30 or later. I went in September, which I think was off-peak pricing plus I got the $50 discount for the later tour. So I'm guessing I paid 139 plus tax. I read lots of reviews before I booked it, most people really enjoy the tour (myself included).

I just did the trek today and loved it...terrific guides, Jay and Paula, thoroughly enjoyed the lunch, and got some great pix! We pulled off the main road several times and although a few of the regular ride vehicles came by they moved on quickly.

My family did the tour in April. Our guides were Josh and Morgan. The entire experience was wonderful! We all loved it, the highlight of our trip! I don't think you'll regret doing it.

Wow. Thanks for all of the responses! You have definitely helped make my decision. I think my husband will love this!

Just to add my two cents - I really enjoyed this tour. We had a much better view of some of the animals (and some fantastic photos!) than we ever could have had on just the regular ride, but that can vary based on the time of day, the season, and the weather.

We went Christmas Day 2014. It was a GREAT way to spend Christmas Day. I would highly recommend this tour. Expensive. They took many pictures throughout the tour and we were given a code to see them online once we were home.

Definitely worth it. My only advice would be, not to schedule it at the end of your vacation. Due to lightning, my tour was cancelled at the last minute. I would leave the next day, but luckily my departure was in the afternoon and I could reschedule for the morning, otherwise I would have gotten a refund.

Yes -- My wife and I did it and now that my daughter is old enough, my wife and her are doing it next March.
