Wild Africa Trek - Shoes?

Trying to figure out if will need to bring a different type of shoe on the trip in order to participate in the Wild Africa Trek. Normally wear flip flops or hand painted canvas crocs in the parks and have no difficulty. Obviously my hand painted canvas crocs would meet requirements but not a shoe I would want to get dirty as they take me +20 hrs to paint. Told that need wear closed-toe shoes with a back strap or hiking boots. Has anyone worn keen sandals on the Wild Africa Trek? Hoping to avoid having to pack a pair of runners as well, need to save as much room as possible for souvenirs.

Generally we're athletic sneaker people...nikes. All that walking, I'd definitely advise something with a good arch support that can't possibly fall off...especially if there are little ones. My podiatrist (I'm 24 but spent years dancing on pointe shoes) kills me anytime I walk any great distance in anything but sneakers...I walked into her office in cute flats last week...don't even get me started lol

I wore regular walking shoes. It's all you need. You will be walking through a trail with vegetation. If you're prone to allergies make sure your shoes a closed type.

I would recommend sturdy shoes that you've worn for long walking periods. There are parts of the tour where you're walking over uneven ground. (BTW - it's the best tour I've taken at WDW! You'll love it!)

Hi, so to the original question, by "normal walking shoes" is that giving a thumbs up to keen sandals? They are plenty sturdy - made for hiking - but are also open air on the sides/top, closed toe with heel strap. Going on the tour Labor Day weekend and would also love to not bring sneakers, but don't want to get turned away at checkin! Thanks!
