Does anyone have a Wii that can help me. I want to buy one for Christmas but I have NO idea what is needed. There is tons of accessories and I don't know which ones are must haves lol.

So how many controllers do you need? How many people can play at one time? It looks like Ebay has some knock offs for controllers that seem to be much cheaper than the 50.00 ones in sthe stores.

Do you need the sports kit? (golf club, baseball bat, wheel ect?)

Which games would you recomend for a family of 4? It would be cool if everyone could play at once but again that is an extra 150.00 for extra remotes. Kids are 9 and 7....

I can help a little.
For the controllers we bought one of the games that came with the free controller - look for a deal like that - we only have 2 controllers &1 nunchuck.

You don't necessarily need the sports pack to start with - you can alwys add that later there are plenty of games to start with on the sports that comes with it.

Other games we have are smarter than 5th grader - doen't get played tons but we have fun when we do play with it - sams as price is right
We have Wii fit (must have balance board with it & that's another big expense that you don't need to get started - something to add later)

we have dance dance revoultion - its pretty hard for someone that can't dance - it comes with a mat - its like $60

we have outdoor challenge - also comes with a mat & the kiddos love it

we have play - that one came with the free controller

rember you can can go to game stop & get used games there

Hope that helps some

theres a whole thread on here talking about wii games -

and for reviews got to IGN.com for pics or clips of the games -but there;s a A ton out there & it includes downloadable games as well - so its easier just to post here for opinions sometimes.

We have 2 nunchuks..and 4 wii motes. We got one wii mote with wi sports when we bought that. I did buy a sports package later on with the bat and racket etc.

It really depends on how many of you are going to play at once.

Missy,

When I got my Wii a few years back I thought I needed to get the "accessory pack" which I did and I think my other half and I have used "rarely" since getting it (bat, golf club, steering wheel, etc).. As far as the controllers you can choose 1 or 2 players or up to four at at time I think 4 people can make use of the 2 controllers that come with it.

My suggestion to you as this is what was suggested to me: My suggestion would also be to check sites such as Amazon see the link below to get a idea of what would work for you and your family... I got the Sports Pack which had the Wii console which had one controller and nunchuk also the Wii Sports game which came with the other remove/nunchuk.

I know I got my Wii thru Ebay but I had to wait for the "right price". My Wii has given me alot of enjoyment with all the games I've purchased and played.... Just another suggestion too... I find good deals on games with GameStop (Video Game Store) I don't know if you have a store in your area but sometimes on a rare occasion they may have one that someone has traded in.

We bought an extra controller and that's it. Mostly the one gets shared anyway. All the extras we got later and quite frankly none are used. The tennis racket, etc can be done with the remote and it's easier to use.

We are going to Wii this Christmas too, so I have been doing research!!

If you check on the back of the box, top right corner, it will tell you the max # of players and what controls/balance board, etc are needed.

Mario Kart is a super fun (my guys love this on the DS) and there is a new Mario game w/fab reviews that allows 4 players. Of course, these are spendy games, so keep an eye out for sales (Target has a coupon until the 25th, TRU has buy 1 Wii game get $20 off another, etc -- also black Friday typically offers some great game sales). From reading a lot of game reviews on Amazon, it seems that the even though some games are very expensive, it is worth it as the family plays it for hours and hours -- not worth buying cheaper games that are duds! I am hoping for a sale soon on remotes and nunchuks too!!

I'm glad to hear a thumbs up for Outdoor Challenge -- I got that in hopes of some activity in this long, long winter to come!

Yep good point there - the cheaper the game the less likely it'll be played for hours - lol stick to the ones you find in the case

my girls love cooking mama on the DS but I don't think we'd like it on the wii -but thar's strictly opinion

We are a family of 4, DD14 and DS11. We have 2 Wii motes and 2 nunchucks. This allows DD and DS to play all the 2 player games. Some games do need the nunchuck, so in order to play 2 players you need 2 nunchucks.

We can play some games with all four of us, like bowling on Wii Sports.

I would suggest that you don't get any of the sports accesories. We have a golf club that the kids don't like at all and never use. We also have the wheel for Mario Kart. I would recommend this game. We love this game, it comes with the wheel, but the kids don't use it.

My DD has a horse game which she really likes, and DS has Skate It. Those are probably 2 more of the games they play alot.

We recently got Wii Sports Resort. The kids really like it. One down side is it comes with an extra attachment for the Wii mote. Of course, in order to play 2 player games we had to buy another attachment, for our second Wii mote. Then there is also an issue with the games that you use the nunchuck with. We have a wired nunchuck and a wireless nunchuck. The wireless nunchuck doesn't fit into the Wii mote with the extra attachment. So we will have to buy another nunchuck to play 2 player.

Wii is good at getting you to spend money. We do love our Wii though. I have Wii fit and it is lots of fun. And the kids love it as well. We even got my fairly sedintary parents to play Wii bowling the other night and they loved it. Good for my dad to get off the couch. They are thinking of buying one.

Hope all this info helps.

We purchased when it first came out and HAD to buy 3 additional controllers and 4 nun chucks. Like yourself, we are a family of 4 and LOVE almost all the Mario games:love:especially Mario Cart and ario Party 8, they are a blast. It is a big hit in the wallet but well worth it. Do not buy the generic controllers, they will break in no time and you will be wasting time and money to replace them:mad:. We also purchased the Wii charging station, trust me you will save a boat load on batteries:yay:. As far as the sports pak goes(bat, tennis raquet etc.)don't waste you money like I did, they just sit and collect dust:sad2:.One IMPORTANT thing: ALWAYS use the wrist strap or tou will have a remote flying through a window- lol. Have Fun:cheer2:

There is a thread somewhere that was a huge help me. The last video game system I owned was Atari.LOL. I was lost, but the dis got me on track!

I know this isn't exactly what you asked, but I have received a lot of helpful information about the wii from here, so I thought I would pass this along.

I just ordered from Amazon the Wii, wii fit & balance board plus, $50.00 gift card for $289.98. It is shipped free and no sales tax. The $50 gift card is for a future purchase with Amazon.

I'm so excited! Now I need to pick up a few games, and I am debating on rock band, or something like it? :confused3

Hope this helps!

I would recommend a charging station. DW just picked one up at a local gaming store for $50.00. Otherwise you always have to deal with dying batteries. Even if you get rechargable batt. you still have to take them out, put them in the charger, plug it in, wait for them to charge, take out of the charger, put back in the 'wii-motes'

Also you definitely have to get the 'new super mario bros' game. I would also recomend a good fishing game...everybody love the fishing games!

I'm really glad this question was posted b/c we are newbie's to wii also! We're going to get one this year for Christmas. There are so many bundles out there...it's hard to really see which store has the best price b/c you've got to compare apples to apples, you know what I mean. The walmart BF ad has a bundle for $249...so far I think that's the best price I've seen out there right now. What you all of you think? That does come with 2 remotes and 1 nunchuk right, 1 game and the console right? Is that basically all we need to actually start?

Santa bought a Wii and games last year and here is my experience .....

DO NOT GET GAMES JUST BECAUSE THEY ARE CHEAP!!!!

Santa bought about 15 games last year and very few are played regularly - at the time DS's were 9, 4, & 4

My DS's just had a birthday and they choose 6 games (we bought during the Target sale + coupons and DS(10) had gift cards) - Mario Kart, Super Mario Party 8, Dora Saves the Castle Kingdom, Toy Story Mania, Hasbro Family Game Night and Carnival Games

The boys have played the Wii more over the past month than we have all year. Mario Kart is thier absolute favorite!

Anyway, this year when buying games, I have looked them up on Amazon and read reviews. Just because they cost $15 doesn't mean they will get played. I would suggest the same to you as well!

Does the Wii itself come with one wii-mote and one nunchuck?

Yes it does. I was able to get another mote, and nunchuck for $22 FS on ebay, and not for a nock off...you just have really pay attention.

I also recommend getting Mario Kart, and one fishing game....so much for for all who play, and really all ages can have a go.

Thanks! I now have 2 wii-motes and 2 nunchucks so we should be all set!

As for games, I shopped at the Target sale (buy 2, get one free). I got WiiPlay (for the extra wii-mote), Toy Story Mania (specifically for dd), and Mario Galaxy (I thought that was something we'd all enjoy). I also ordered a WWII Wii game from Amazon specifically for ds, our WWII buff. I think we're set! I would like to get the Mario Kart but that'll have to wait until after Christmas because Wii-wise I'm finished shopping for Christmas.

Our kids will be so excited and surprised! Other than hand-held devices, this will be our 1st gaming system. :goodvibes

Great! One thing about Mario Kart....you can find just the game on Ebay for around $20 FS, then there are always deals on the wheels. I have 1 son, and 2 daughters, so I bought 2 pink wheels for $5 FS, and 1 white wheel for $3 FS...so out the door Ive spent $28, where as on Amazon they want $48 for the game with one wheel. So, my best advice is keep an eye on ebay when you are ready to add to your games....just be sure you watch recent activity and use power sellers. Enjoy your new wii!!
