Wii will begin the Revolution

It's official, the new Nintendo console will be named Wii. Previously called Nintendo Revolution, Revolution was just a codename, just like Gamecubes codename was "Dolphin"

Introducing... Wii.
As in "we."

While the code-name Revolution expressed our direction, Wii represents the answer. Wii will break down that wall that seperates videogame players from everybody else. Wii will put people more in touch with their games... and each other. But you're probably asking: What does the name mean?

Wii sounds like "we," which emphasizes the console is for everyone. Wii can easily be remembered by people around the world, no matter what language they speak. No confusion. No need to abbreviate. Just Wii.

Wii has a distinctive "ii" spelling that symbolizes both the unique controllers and the image of people playing it. And Wii, as a name and a console, brings something revolutionary to the world of videogames that sets it apart from the crowd.

So that's Wii. But now Nintendo needs you. Because it's really not about you or me. It's about Wii. And together, Wii will change everything.

Yeah but from what I understand it is difficult to pronounce in other languages. So this name has a more universal appeal.

Well It won't hinge on me buying it, as I still buy a Wii. It is interesting though, developers have stated that the name Wii actually reveals to us the other hidden secret of the Wii. 1Up.com has stated that they know the final secret, and it is better than the controller even, and will change games forever. Also what is curious is that Nntendo is having a pre E3 showing in the Kodak Theater, which is odd. Possible way to show the final secret? Only 2 more weeks to go.
