I am getting my 4 boys a joint big gift for Christmas. Our Wii is having problems so I think it mught be on it's last leg.:badpc: I noticed the new Wii U coming out but I don't even know much about it. :confused3 Will our Wii games we have now work on it or are they different sizing cartridges? They have a lot of Mario and Lego games I would hate to have to rebuy.
I was also looking at the Xbox 360 with Kinect. My boys are 14,almost 13, 11 and 8. I want a gaming system that has games they can play together like the Wii. Also, we don't allow any violent or gore games if that makes a difference. I know a lot of teens play those but my kids know that we guard what we fill our minds with to guard our spiritual growth. So will the Xbox have enough for them to play if you eliminate all those games or should we stick with Wii? I did see some cool Pixar and Disneyland games for Kinect. I'm just not sure as I don't pay much attention to this stuff.

I was just at out local GameStop. Wii u will use all wii games. They did tell me that if it was not preordered don't count on it till January or February. :(

With boys that age, I say go with the xbox 360. My ds stop playing with the wii when he turned 8.

If you aren't interested in allowing them to play violent games, definitely go with the Wii. Xbox 360 has wonderful games geared toward teens & adults, however, most of the "good ones" are violent or have adult language and/or content. :) The Wii would be great for clean family games that they can play together or separate.

Typically I recommend Xbox for kids older than 8 or so, but since you specifically mentioned no violent games, the Wii would be better for your family.

I've been going back and forth between PS3 with Little Big Planet Karting or Wii U. I like that the PS3 will give us a wireless blu ray player and netflix also in the family room and am leaning towards it, however not crazy about the ability to play online for my son. We have a Wii so not sure if the Wii U is really that much different to warrant the added expense. Appreciate the opinions, wish there were more family friendly games for PS3 and Xbox.

Normally with kids that age I'd say go with the X-box but since you don't allow violent games you'd want to go with a Wii-u. the only thing though is I don't know that you'll find one at a reasonable price. I saw they were going for almost $600 on Amazon. Youngest DS wants one for Christmas, but it's not happening because I'm not spending that much on a gaming system. I don't know what I'm going to get him, but not that.

Honestly it would come down to the games you would let them play. Look at the games that wii u is saying will come out soon (although take it with a grain of salt as some of the "launch titles" that they were hyping for the 3ds before its launch are still not out) and compare it with the xbox games.

I have only tried one game for the wii u yet (since it just launched today) and that was one you wouldn't have allowed (zombie u) I'll try Nintendo Land later today since my DH is just setting up ours now.

There are some great family friendly games for Xbox w/Kinect! My son and I have a great time with Kinect Sports, Fruit Ninja, Joy Ride, etc. There's a bunch of great games and let me tell you as an old broad it's a good workout as well :thumbsup2.
