I'm heading out this weekend to purchase a Wii..... Santa didn't bring me one:sad1:... I must have been naughty :confused3

The big question: What do I need? Controllers, chargers, nunchuks, oh my!

I have been researching all week (including reading many posts here on the Dis) and all that is doing is confusing me further! After I purchase the console, what do you suggest I pick up.... what is necessary to use the games? Is a charger a necessity? Do the batteries really run out quickly? I assume the games come with the tools needed to play(?)
It is just me and my DD17 that will be playing so I assume 2 of everything would make sense so we can play together (she's an odd teenager, she still likes to hang out with mom). Right away I think I will buy Mario Kart, Sports Resort, EA Active and Fit plus.

It's an expensive undertaking so I don't want to buy more than necessary. I clearly need all the tips I can get!

TIA!
:goodvibes

Oh, and any game suggestions are welcome!

Hi,
A charger is not necessary. Do, however, get some extras batteries. I personally do not find that they run out very quickly at all. Do get a second controller and nunchuck. That is all you need to start having fun right away. The Sports game that comes with it will keep you entertained for a long time. Look for Wii Fit/Console bundles. I have seen them cheaper then buying the pieces seperately. I do have a Wii Fit and I think it is great.

Controller and numchuck for every player. wii wheel for any driving games. The cheaper games are really fun. Toysrus had buy 1 get one 50% off last week and we got carnival mini golf and a few other really cheap and they are just as fun as Toy story . Mario kart is a Blast! look for those sales I got 1 free for buying two before christmas.

funny to see this post! I just bought one this morning! My friend works at Game stop, so I went to him, I got the Wii, and I got the Wii Active, which is what he said is all I need for a great workout! I will hook up tomorrow or sunday, which ever day I do not work.

Need? Just another controller and a nunchuck.

And then anything else you want with the WiiFit stuff. (I don't have any WiiFit stuff)

I don't like the charger station myself but that is my preference. One of these days I need to find my battery charger and buy some rechargeable batteries.

Santa dropped one down our fireplace & it's FUN!!!!!!!

We have the Wii Fit (with the balance board) & the Wii Sports (tennis racket, golf club, bat, steering wheel & nun chuck.)

Have a great time!

got a charger station here (2 controllers).... it came with the package I originally got.... nice that it keeps them charged up, so when we want to play, they are ready to go, and no bother with batteries (rechargeable batteries would work just as well, just have to swap them back-n-forth when needed).

if the wii wheel comes with the mario kart you get, that's fine, but (my personal preference) I wouldn't bother getting it separate for it.... I find it's a lot easier to steer/etc just using the controller/nunchuck...

We just got Mario Brothers and Mario Kart from Santa here. Love them both, especially that we can play multi players. Mario Kart, we have one wheel because it came with it. The rest of us just use the controller, not even the nunchucks. Do they make a difference if you add them?

One thing you certainly do not need are those attachments shaped like golf clubs, tennis rackets, etc. Waste of money, IMHO.

For just two people the best charging station right now is the Energizer pad - you just lay your remote down on it and it charges. They are $29.99 on Amazon right now. Swapping batteries can be annoying if you have covers on your remote and if you play a lot you can burn through AAs every few days or week depending on how long you play. We stock up each Black Friday on 40 or 60 packs at Home Depot/Lowes for $10 but the charger is the easiest way to go.

If you get Sports Resort (recommended - lots of fun, much better than the original Wii Sports that comes with the system) it will come with one motion plus adapter but you will need to buy a second one for both players to play using their own remotes ($17.99 right now at many places). You can buy a wiimote and motion plus combo in some places for cheaper than buying them separately, so keep your eye out for that, too.

If you enjoyed the old Mario games the new Mario Wii is great - old school Mario fun wrapped in a slightly updated package, but you will feel like it is 1995 again, but with better graphics. :)

Mario Cart should come with a steering wheel, and it is personal preference whether you need even one of those, or a second for two players - they are not "required" to play the game by any means.

I don't have MK. However some games need the nunchucks to play, like Zelda Twilight Princess. And I think boxing requires the nunchucks.

never tried with only the remote... with the nunchuck, the joystick part serves as the wheel to turn left/right..... I think it would make it a lot easier (especially if your racing bikes, since you can still hit the turns while snapping the remote up in the air to do a wheelie for a speed boost)

I game a lot (PS3, X360, Wii, PC) and I agree with this 100%.

We got the system for Christmas. I think having a set of controllers per regular player is a good idea. This would be the remote, nunchuck and the motion plus. You will need the motion plus for Sports Resort. We got a recharge station, but it isn't necessary--just have lots of AA batteries. At one point Target had a special Sports Resort package that contained two of the motion plus controllers for only $10 more than the standard game.

Right now, my husband is playing Pokemon Rumble demo he got as a free download, you can only play a few levels. We were visiting family and played Raving Rabbids TV Party and had a blast with it. Sports Resort is great too. We like the old school Mario games, so did get the new Super Mario Bros.

You may want to go to a place that sells used games to look for inexpensive games. Since your system is new to you, any of the game titles will be new--look at the older games for better deals. Enjoy!

I bought my wife Mario Kart LAST YEAR for Christmas since she loves Mario games so much and it remains unopened. I should have her read these posts about how much fun it is.

I dont know if they are still doing this, but at christmas you could buy the Wii from Walmart for $199 and get a $50 gift card with it. It came with Wii Sports. Also, Sams club has the Wii Fit bundle with the balance board for $88 which is the cheapest you can find it. I've been using it since Christmas and love it.

Sports Resort is on sale at Target through today for $39.99

We got a great charger on sale at Best Buy for around $17 - sale ends today too.

Our CVS drug store had an accesory kit for $9.99. It has a wheel, golf club, baseball bat and ping pong paddle.

Most Mario Kart games do come with the wheel but they are around $50. Our DS (age 5) loves playing it at his aunt and uncles so we'll probably buy it soon.
