Okay, this is not really a disability, but I thought maybe someone here has some experience with this. I lost all my hair to radiation treatment a year or so ago so now I wear wigs. I am worried about losing my wig on some of the rides like TOT or any of the roller coasters. Yes, I could just wear a hat or go without the wig, but I do like to have my hair on for pictures and don't want to risk sunburn on my head...

Any suggestions to avoid losing my hair all over again?

Have you had any significant hair regrowth yet? If you have, then perhaps bobby pins might help secure your wig. If not, then toupee tape might help. (I think they still make it). A visit to your wig shop should help you get the answers you need. But I'm sure others will be along quickly with more advice.

The only other thing I can think of is to wear something like a Tilley hat, that has a chin strap. Easy to put on over your wig, then cram back into your bag after the ride.

When someone asked a similar question a few years ago, this website was highly recommended by a couple of posters:

On the accessories pages, they have toupee tape, a sort of headband that goes under the wig and that helps keep a wig secure and also some spray adhesive:

They also have an huge assortment of pretty hats and turbans and also hairpieces that can be worn with different hats and turbans to give the look of hair, but be a bit more secure and also cooler than a full wig.

Hi!

My DD13 is currently undergoing treatment for leukemia. She's been pretty much bald since August of last year.

She has some traditional wigs, but what she wears the most are the hats with hair.

They attach to the head better and allow for more air flow, so her head doesn't itch and get as sweaty.

I had either not seen that website before or they have completely re-done their website.
Their styles look nice for anyone, but especially nice for younger people.:thumbsup2

I have made several trips using a wig that was secured by straps on the inside alone during my trips to WDW. I am happy to report that it held up and I did not lose my hair on any ride:scared1:. I would just make sure that the straps in the back are tightened to the absolute end of what you can still tolerate and it will be okay. I did get a scare on RNRC, but it held up:lmao: I thought it came off but it didn't it just got blown everywhere (the hair). I hope that you have a great time at WDW too:goodvibes

Losing my hair was harder psychologically than losing my stamina. Fortunately the hair came back. :cheer2: Still struggling with the stamina. The wig looked natural but when the temp was over 100F I refused to sweat it out and wore a baseball cap. The wig was already tight, and tightening it even more to keep from blowing in the wind would've just given me a headache.

The OP mentioned wanting hair in the pictures. Are you planning to do a lot of pics? I've hated pics since I was a kid. :rolleyes1 But for the obligatory been there done that pics, could you wear the wig for pics early one morning, then go with the basebrawl cap to keep cool after that? With the cap you can go into a restroom and soak your head to cool off. That wouldn't work too well with the wig. Those hats with hair are cute, tho I wouldn't have gotten enough use out of one to make it a worthwhile investment.

Those are all GREAT ideas! Thanks so much! I will be checking out those websites and I love the spray adhesive idea as well as the hats with hair.

Thanks again!! :lovestruc

I wear a wig all the time and have never had trouble at WDW. Of course, I can't ride the fast or jerky rides, so that may be why!
