WiFi yet?

I probably could find this on the boards, but just out of curiosity where can you get WIFI? IF we do decided to go down in August and can swing it, I still will have some school work to do :(.

You can request a cable modem but there is a limited number so no guarrantee you will get it. There is wifi available at the Meadows and Settlement. I used the wifi while sitting at a table on the porch at Trail's End.

You have two options.

1. Meadows Trading Post, Reception Outpost, and Crockets Tavern area.

2. Get the cable modem kit (free to use, only deposit on the kit required.) And plug in your own wifi router, this is the method I use. No wires all around the camper, I just put the modem and router in my storage locker and it covers my site just fine.

We are at the Fort now, we have a decent signal on the In Room Guest (Disney) network. We are in the 100 loop and the signal is great, the speed is slow but not to painful. I have been using it on my laptop, on my phone though or my wife's iPad we pretty much stick to the personal hotspot AT&T.

Here is a screenshot of the speeds we are getting on the guest network.

Thanks mightyX. I got right at 3 MB/s both up and down on the porch of Trails End back in March so that's in line (although the upload is off so maybe a DISser is uploading some pix?).

Enjoy the remainder of your visit. I liked being in 100 loop last year.

How tough is it to get the cable modem kit? I got it once, but we couldn't seem to get it to connect to the internet. But I didn't have a problem getting one. I'm willing to try it again.

I was told the waiting list was two pages when I was there around new years 2014, the next morning they called me to say the kit was availible to pick up. So I did.

Here now-Internet Connection

Had no probelm getting the kit yesterday, but I could not get on yesterday evering. Stupid thing let me long into ADP and then as I was sending a email out it froze up. I literally had to grab my laptop and walk over to the comfort station area here on the 900 loop and just clock out.

This morning (8am-10:20am) I am able to get on no problem. I also saw a few people turning thier kits in today. So, I am am guessing that their were just too many people on last night. I have to work again later today and this time if it happens I am going to call and complain to the number they provide with the kit.

I just got to do a survey on my stay at the Fort. I gave them a
"poor" rating on the internet service and told them they needed to get with the times. No one wants to do a conference call from the pool area with screaming kids around. I also gave the same examples of RV resorts that have pulled off the Wi-Fi service.

They also asked me about my cell phone service, I have AT&T it was awesome as always.

They also asked if I could you my Magic Band to access the resort amenities. I chose the other as most of it referred to the resorts and then I was able to tell them that it was not functional for the Laundry room and Comfort Station.

Just thought I would give everyone a heads up, that I didn't sugar coat the survey. So, maybe they'll make some upgrades before my next stay. :)

Some folks in the 600 loop close to the Meadow TP report picking up the TP wifi.

Although if you have a Premium site, the back of 1100 is within spitting distance of the cabins in loop 2100. So if "all the cabin loops have wifi" that means there might be another opportunity to "sniff" some wifi in 1100.

We are in 608 and the wifi is spotty, I did get a cable modem from the meadows trading post for the laptop and that helps. Next time I will bring a wireless router to hook up to the cable modem. The speed is the best early in the morning for sure and it gets slower through to the day. THe wifi will work inside the RV most of the time but will not work on my patio.

I learned very recently that WIFI for the camping loops is in the works and is currently on the radar. As is typical with Disney, no commitment or timetable. (And no, my source is not a Fort bus driver. We all know how reliable they are (not)). :rolleyes1

You might say, "yeah, ed right" but I think the we will see it come to fruition. We campers may have been pushed to the back burner but we apparently haven't been forgotten.

FWIW.

Walt mentioned that we should be patient, his Florida project would be an ongoing adventure.

Ed - as my previous posts have stated, I think the first attempt was a great idea but technology had not caught up to handle the challenges of providing reliable wifi at FW. I am not surprised that its bubbling up that it can and will happen with an unknown time table. The past two years I have looked at the advancements in equipment for similar deployments and they have seriously made leaps in bounds both in capability and lower caplital costs. I really hope their IT gurus can knock this one out well and give us all a solid reliable WIFI in all of the loops.

That's awesome news Bama Ed. Course, it wouldn't surprise me if it's a few years down the road. But, I know they have all got to be tired of hearing me complain about it several times a year that I am there. LOL!

Our last stay was 4 weeks ago tomorrow and there was no wifi to be found at our loop. No issues with the cable modem they lent us though. We were in the 900 loop with the back of our site to Fort Wilderness Trail (the road that lines right down the middle of the Fort).

When we were there in October, there was no WIFI, but we were able to create our own. They have a line that you can connect an ethernet cable to go gain internet access. I took a portable WIFI hotspot that I had bought at Walmart. I plugged the ethernet cable into it, and then had WIFI in the entire camper. It was slow, but go the job done...

Your campsite had an Ethernet connection? Was it at the electricity post?

Until it goes live you have to get a cable modem kit from the trading post. From there any generic WIFI router you can buy anywhere or take from home (unless its a fios router) and tada wifi at home.
