Wifi Reliability in the Resorts?

Hello everyone. DH and I will be traveling to the World in early February. My work situation is pretty much requiring me to check e-mails, read and edit some Word docs, and return e-mails as part of my job responsibility for a few nights during my stay. I'll be staying at Caribbean Beach Resort.

So my question is, what is your experience with wifi in the resorts? I'll be expected to do my work at night and early mornings, likely Sunday, Monday and Tuesday. I plan to be bringing a laptop that my company will provide me.

Thanks for your input!

I can't speak for your resort since I've not been there. But I've found it excellent at Old Key West, boardwalk (I'm using it here now at the pool), Saratoga springs, animal kingdom, aulani and in all the parks. The worst has been bay lake for some reason.

It is certainly better than it once was. But during "high traffic" times it can be spotty. High traffic times are the times most folks are not in the parks - so early morning and at night.
We were last at Beach Club in October.
I would be nervous about having dependable access to required work documents while there.
Good Luck

Based on your description, I think you'll be fine unless you have to download/upload large documents through your company's VPN. I even have trouble with that when working remotely at home sometimes. I wouldn't plan on any important Skype calls or anything. For email, it should work fine.

I can't speak to CBR, but have found the wifi reliability at the resorts we have stayed to be excellent particularly the last year or two. When we first started going it would kick you off randomly and it was mediocre. It is much, much better these days in my experience.

My husband always has to work during our trip, and he always brings the air card thing just in case, but he has never needed to use it. The resorts he has worked at were ASMovies, Pop, Boardwalk and AKL. We have also watched Netflix on the laptop without any issues.

I also cannot speak to CBR specifically but when we stay at Pop, a very busy resort, I have no issues with the Wifi connection - we even stream Netflix in our room at night.

When Wifi was first installed years ago that was not the case. It was TERRIBLE.

Wifi has improved greatly over the years.

We have had decent WiFi in room and in public space but we are just checking personal email and general things on the internet.I know don't know how private the service is so that is something to consider depending on your work/company.

All personal opinion - I'm not necessarily right, no one else is necessarily wrong.

If you have an Android Cell Phone? Consider downloading a FREE app from the Google Store....
"WiFi Analyzer"

What does this do? What does it NOT do?

Right off - no adds. It WILL show you WiFi spots within Range, and give you a great real time graph of Signal Strength. This would be ALL locations broadcasting.... not just the one your phone got stuck on.

Stuck? Let me explain.... most Android devices latch onto a signal. Until the power level of that signal drops to damn near zero, they won't pick a NEW WIFI station - even if the signal is stronger. This can be a problem at WDW Hotels. You will move from "In Room Guest" to "WDW Public". Maybe :). You MAY find that you need to FORCE a phone or tablet to latch on to a new transmitter.

Why I love this app..... Free, no adds, open source. It shows me all WAPS (Wireless Access Points) with any power, in range. My plan? Cruse the lobby of the WL, observing signal strength. Bet I can TELL you where the WAPS are physically located :).

Again, All personal opinion - I'm not necessarily right, no one else is necessarily wrong.

The wifi in the resorts are MUCH better than the parks. Always auto-joins on my phone. No coming and going like the guest wifi in the parks. It even auto-connects in other hotels when I resort hop. When I was in college I used to take my Macbook to do assignments and it worked just fine.

When we have been at Art of Animation the past three times, the wifi has been fine for downloading work emails on ipad daily. I didn't notice a busier or slower time. Totally understand working on the road on vacation. Have fun!

You might want to talk to your IT folks about security issues. The WDW wifi is not secure. May or may not make a difference for your work.

ABSOLUTELY TRUE.... and not just limited to WDW. In ANY public space - at LEAST use https for anything you value :). There are times we have been to WDW, and seen "WDW Gust" SSIDs pop up :). NOT a Misspell - rather, another WAP, in a room, and you could guess what it was for.... :).

Wifi was bad when it first came online but its been good everywhere in the parks and resorts the last couple of years.

Thanks everyone. I am a newspaper editor for a weekly paper, so I'll be downloading the final 2-3 PDFs of our proof pages to give a final thumbs up before they go to press. So nothing secure or classified. But I will certainly talk to our IT folks. I appreciate all the responses and tips here.

When the Wifi was first being rolled out it was spotty , it has since improved, it worked fined when we were at CB, but our last stay at Corando we noticed that the device loses connection sometime during the middle of the night and didnt connect back but was easily fixed but worked fine when we used it any other time
