was thinking about buying a wireless router in the hope my blackberry will work. we are coming from the UK trying to get as much help / info as possible before we come.

was thinking about buying a router in walmart. anyone done this using either a blackberry or Iphone

Not sure on blackberry, but have successfully used this method with my iPod Touch. I have a small wireless router that I retired from active use when I moved from wireless G to wireless N in my house. It now travels with us to get some free wifi in my room.

:-)

read about several people using their home wireless router to connect iphone etc and it worked well, will be taking mine in October to try it out.

I am not sure Blackberry and Iphone would work with a router because they use outside and satellite wireless services (such as Verizon and AT&T) just like other cell phones which you should be able to use without any router or even being anywhere near your room and internet hook-up. I do not know if coming from the UK makes a difference but our Iphones and Blackberries work just fine in Orlando.

I have used my Airport Express travel router to access wi-fi on my iPhone while at DVC. But the way Disney makes you reconnect every time you log in and reauthorize every 24 hours is a real pain in the neck. So now I just use 3G. But coming from UK I guess that buying a cheap router so you can use wi-fi would be a good idea. I am a dummie about networking, but you may need a computer to configure the router. I don't know whether you are planning on bringing a laptop. Hopefully someone with more network savvy than I will post with suggestions. Good luck!

My BB (8530) has both wi-fi (same one my PC uses) and sprint cdma. I'd imagine the OP could turn off cellular data and enable wi-fi through the new router to use data services here without needing an international voice/data plan

The main problem may be if you need a pc hookup for initial router setup. I cannot access my routers setup page from my bb
