Hi,

Anyone know what the charges are for wifi internet access when staying at the Hotel New York?

Thanks in advance - trying to decide if it's going to be worth taking my laptop!

Having checked a couple of old threads, you can definitely get WiFi access at 10 euros for 2 hours. There may or may not be better value options available if you want to use it for longer :confused3

10 eu for a 2 hour card; charges per second ie 120 minutes to be used non-consectutively

20 eu for 24 hours consecutive use

60 eu for 7 days

120 eu for 30 days

All via orange-wifi.com

At SL only the 6th and 7th floor rooms are near enough to the hotspot to have access; otherwise can only access in the lobby/bar. the staff are WOEFULLY undertrained and do not know this, or don't know why something doesn't work. The only card on sale is the 2 hour card, but the other times can be bought on line.

at HNY all rooms have wifi access; at Newport Bay only Admirals Club rooms

Last Christmas they only sold the 10 Euro cards. There was not enough demand for they others cards the lady in the shop told me.

If I'm wrong please let me know.

sjaakie, I think that it's just more of the woefully poor internet service overall. I was sent from SL to NPB to HNY to the train station in vain trying to buy ANY card. I finally invited a staff member up to my room and after 30 minutes we were able to connect. She had brought a 10 eu card with her, which she finally found after hunting around in the gift shop. She admitted that it was poorly handled.

Even worse, the staff at SL didn't realize that very few of the 1,000 rooms are close to the hotspot, and it took 3 room changes to figure that out.

On my day of departure, there was hurricane force winds and rain. At 5am I saw a guest standing outside with his laptop, trying to use Skype to make a call to Asia. He was struggling to hold his laptop and shield it from the rain, in an effort to use the hotspot.

Definitely needs an update at SL!

Just to clarify - you DON'T need a card to go online - once you open your browser, you should get the various options to purchase a longer time frame.

As by my experience, the gift shops do not always even stock the 2 hour card. And the train station assured me that they no longer stock any of the cards, regardless of what your hotel may tell you..

Hi Everyone,

Thanks very much for the comprehensive details - since we are staying at the Hotel New York, I definately think I'll take my laptop.

Great tip about paying online - I don't think I would have been able to find that out looking at the 'official' info, and probably wouldn't have thought to try.

That's the real benefit of these boards - these insider hints 'n' tips. :thumbsup2

Thanks again.
