My lovely bride of nearly 18 years turns 40 on March 27. I am looking for
creative ways to surprise her with a special day. She runs a home daycare, so
my first step is to get her daycare parents to secretly take the day off and
not bring their children. Trust me, that would be the first wonderful surprise-
an unexpected day off.

I was also thinking about one of those "days of beauty" offered at the hair
salon. Beyond that, I'm sort of scratching my head to avoid the bland and
predictable celebrations.

If you have great ideas, feel free to share. Thanks!

That sounds like a wonderful birthday surprise.

I'm going to move this to the community board where I am sure you will get a lot of great ideas for more surprises.

I turn 40 in January...My DH wanted to give me a party. It is the last thing I want. I would love to go with friends out and party, but no big thing with family and co-workers...eeeeewwwwww.

I want to go away and get lost. I think your idea is awesome. How about the day at the Spa followed by a night out on the town. Rent a limo(have a red rose and champagne in the limo), go to dinner and take her to the theater or dancing...Something that you would never do.

I am dying to go daning, but it ain't ever gonna happen. That would be my perfect 40th celebration....

Yes...ask all the parents to cancel and bring her breakfast in bed as she wakes up. Surprise her with you taking a day off and just spending some quality time together with no kids or others around...Take a mini one day vacation in your own town or a nearby city. Visit a local attraction such as a zoo, museum, historic home, aquarium etc. TAke a walk on a river walk and maybe a boat ride if you have a local river .....Just see things, take pictures of each other and have a wonderfully nice dinner, somewhere with a great view or themeing.....Tell her your wonderful day has reminded you of being on vacation in WDW and oh by the way her gift is a trip to WDW, Even if it is months away, a suprise trip to think of does wonders for women...

DH just surprised me with a wonderful 40th birthday. First he gave me diamond earrings........then told me to be ready at 5 PM and be dressed up. Well, a limo came and got us, then some friends and then we went to dinner in Boston!!!

It was wonderful....................

He also got me a cleaning service for 5 times!!!

My Dh took me to Disney for the weekend. We stayed at the Contemporary, wanted to go there since I was a kid.

It's a shame you don't live close by or I would offer to help out the parents for one day.

I like the idea of a day at the spa and a date with you and traveling in a limo. She will have a wonderful time.

I'll be 40 this year the week or so after we go to WDW. I never expect a lot from DH, although he does let me go kind of nuts at Downtown Disney :D for my big day. I have never had a surprise party and don't think I ever will, but that's OK with me.
My dream party would be to rent out the old skate rink, invite all my friends and play all the mid-late 70s stuff we used to skate to--KC and the sunshine band, etc. Dream on!
I think what you have planned so far, the day off, is very thoughtful of you. A spa treat is also nice. Top it off with a nice dinner. Keep up the good work!

Man you guys are too nice...I was thinking of sending some "special" flowers...have the florist put together all of their dead flowers and have them delivered. :p

Send her off to a nice relaxed SPA and pamper her with a massage / facial / whatever else. (You pay of course).
Then pick her up for a nice dinner. Doesn't need to be fancy, just nice and quiet and good food.
Then take her home to a bedroom full of rose petals ( or just flowers) and chocolate.
And tell her you'll want to do the same thing for the next 40 years.

:)

OK, can someone please email this idea to my DH?

I like most of these ideas, just make sure you don't give her an over the hill party.

No wait a minute that's what my wife would want. Your idea is definitely on the right track. Day at the spa will work wonders. Happy 40th to your wife. :Pinkbounc

Actually - that's what I did get when I turned 40 a year and a half ago!!:( My friends sent me dead, black flowers and a book they made about middle age with all of these articles clipped out.

When I turned 30, my DH had a funeral wreath with my name, birthday, and RIP on the ribbon delivered to the outside of my office!

Of course, I won't say what I did to all of them first!;)

For my 40th, my DH took me to Las Vegas and we had dinner at the "Top of the World" restaurant. It was marvelous. I bet she will appreciate the parents taking a day off, and you spending the day with her - taking her all over - spa, movie, fun stuff. Do something you haven't done in years. Maybe go to the zoo or aquarium or the planetarium.
Have fun! Can't wait to hear what you do.

thanks everyone for all your creative ideas and encouragement. I've also
decided to do video interviews with her friends, asking them to share a
favorite story involving my wife and/or what they most appreciate about
her.

Anyway..thanks again for your support.
This has been fun!
