Wierd PO/FQ?

Okay, I just stayed in a Baymont Inn this weekend that had an extremely loud (and I do mean loud) air conditioner. It was the typical stuck in the wall hotel type unit. I wish to avoid this on my trip to Disney in Jan. One of the things I do like about the ASMo is that nice, perfectly quiet A/C system with a thermostat. I noticed in pictures that CSR has this same system. Love it!!!

My ?- what type of heating and A/C unit is in the rooms at Port Orleans-French Quarter?

We stayed in the POFQ about 2 months ago and they had
in the wall hotel type unit and it was loud to it was in need of some fixing.

We stayed in a motel in GA on our way up to TN last yr and the
AC in the wall the front fell right off of it bang right on the floor.

Aren't they the type that sit on the floor under the window? That's what we had at PO/Riverside when we were there. We didn't like the kind they had at Coronado Springs. We're from the frozen north and it just wasn't cool enough in our room. The CM told us it was working fine though for Florida. We're booked at FQ next spring and I hope that doesn't happen again.

I just have to let you know - last week while staying at CBR I woke up at 3am because it was too quiet in the room. I realized our air conditioner was off. I woke my husband and told him the AC was off. He told me all the power was off. (that's the night there was a fire with a transformer at EPCOT and we lost power for 1 1/2 hrs.) We found the silence to be deafening. So I guess I've never noticed the noise of an AC. I must like it.

The AC at FQ are the ones that sit under the window. You control the temp by Hi - Lo buttons. We haven't ever found them to be terribly noisy...or perhaps we just haven't noticed. We like some noise in the background but not a lot.

Thanks for the info tileman and dcedwards. I find that I prefer these types of air conditioners. I've never found them to be too noisy. At least not yet LoL. I guess I too prefer some noise. I think like nolcrest I would find complete silence a real pull on my nervous system. Although I sure wouldn't want to be awakened by a clangy banging AC either. The kind they have at WL and the deluxes are really nice too. Just a thermostat to adjust like at home. While at WL, november 2000, it was the first time we ever had to turn the heat side on while at WDW. And we were so happy to have it!

It is amazing that as inexpensive as the All Stars are, they, too, have that perfectly quiet, nice system. I am a complete wierdo when it comes to sleeping. I am never without my earplugs and have even considered one of those masks. DH wishes he had known some of these things about me before marriage. Oh well, too late now!

LOL! I too travel everywhere with my earplugs. My favorites are hard to find... "pillow tops" they come in a hard plastic case. Not those rubber ones that you have to squeeze around to fit your ear. My DH always snores at WDW, but not at home! Maybe he's tired from a whole day walking in the parks!

You know it's funny but when I said I prefer some noise around me I didn't think about DH's snoring. It does keep me awake!..... And a ticking alarm clock. Drives me up the wall. We always have to use a clock radio. Mostly light is what keeps me awake though. I have to have complete darkness for some reason. I guess I should invest in a "mask"and look for something to stop the snoring so I can hear the noises that I can stand. LoL

I can't even share with you some of the solutions I've dreamed up for DH's snoring in the middle of the night!!

The ticking clock thing gets me, too! Earplugs really are a godsend for me in hotel rooms!

That's too bad you can't share your snoring solutions cause I think sometimes I'd try anything! {hired assassin has even entered my mind in the wee hours of a sleepless night LoL}
And on the subject of loud or non cooling AC's after roasting at CSR I packed a small fan on our next trip! It's a good thing we drive to Florida. {although my DH wasn't too happy when he saw the overpacked car.}

I always carry ear plugs with me on trips. At home I can just go to another room but when there is only one hotel room it makes it difficult. And, I've thought up many wonderful scenarios of how to stop the snoring...but then reality sets in...

Typically, though, we have found the rooms at PO to be pretty quiet. If you don't want to hear someone above you...doesn't happen a lot but it can...then request a third floor room. There seems to be less traffic on the third floor also. But we've never had a problem with the AC at POFQ. And, in Dec. a couple years, we were VERY glad to have heat in our oom. Disney ran out of gloves, mufflers and hats .... it was COLD!

Pillow Tops - where do you find them? This is so funny - we should start a thread somewhere else on "sleeping through your husbands (or wife's - have to be fair) snoring". I can top you all - I actually booked the OKW so that I would be able to get a good night's sleep - I'll be in bedroom with DD and DS and DH will sleep on pull-out couch (or vice versa). At least DS (16 yrs. old) can sleep through anything or if not, says he'll have his portable CD player and headphones to drown dad's noise out I suprised DH with an overnight visit to Atlantic City last month and spent half the night laying there awake listening to the snoring! I've always booked suites because of this (guess that's why we only vacation every 4 years or so ! Those home-away-from-home rooms are expensive It's like someone said earlier - at home you can go in another room - in Atlantic City, I was about ready to sleep in the whirlpool bath !

Maybe I will be able to order those pillow top ear plugs and save thousands on my room for my next vacation !!!!!!!

I think tips for sleeping through snoring would be a great thread. It's hilarious to read about but it sure ain't funny when you're climbing the walls at 3 am because you can't sleep!

And dcedwards, thanks for the encouraging words about PO/FQ. We can't wait to get there. But I must be so un-observing because I did not know that the AC units that sit on the floor under the windows had heat. I just never really looked I guess. Hopefully we won't need it but thanks so much for clueing me in. We have requested third floor rooms so I hope that works out too.

You must get some earplugs ASAP
They really do work pretty well. I have used the "Quiet Please" brand. You can find these at Walmart in the pharmacy section where eye/ear/nose things are found. I am going to look for the "Pillow top" brand today, I'll let you know if I find them.
The ear plugs help so much with "hotel noise", too.
I feel your pain!
My DH is really bad if he is in a strange bed, or if he's had a couple of beers. I swear he didn't snore like this before we got married. It must have come with middle age!

Wonder if anyone has every used "Sleep deprivation due to snoring spouse" as a murder defense?

You guys all need a small, white-noise machine. These things are amazing and we never travel without one! Ours is a small disc, made by Norelco, I think. You can plug it in and it has batteries too, in case of power trouble. You can select ocean, heartbeat, white noise (like static), rain, or forest sounds. I use ocean -- rain makes me feel like I have use the bathroom all night!

The volume is adjustable so you can have a little noise or a lot. We sleep late by Disney standards so our machine drowns out all the noise of other folks moving around in the early morning. I turn the ocean up real high and we laugh that our neighbors will think the Titanic is going down in our room! We got our machines when our kids were small and taking naps and now we never leave home without them! I think ours cost less than$30.
