Wide Sandals

Ok, forget my search for Tevas (which were ok, but not great). What recommendations do you experts have for the wide footed shoe wearer? I am looking for a comforable sandal that will fit a wide foot and be able to carry me through a day at Disney in the middle of summer!

I also have a wide foot and I have yet to find an all-day comfortable sandal. After 5 trips, and several trial pairs of sandals, I gave up and now I just wear sneakers and socks.

I am with you on this one. I had heard so much about Tevas but when I put them on the arch hit funny and then the salesman looked at me weird when I said I wanted to walk alot in them. He said they aren't really a walking sandal. He recommend two other brands which I have now forgotten but I will try to find out for you, they are more expensive of course which made me pause. I tried on some Columbia ones that seemed nice but I am still pondering if they would be comfortable walking in a lot.

I just can't find any to fit right. They all hurt my little toe. (I have Donald Duck style feet: widest at the toes.) I can sort-of wear flipflops, but my heel slips off. So I gave up on sandals and wear sneakers.

Birkenstock makes a wide sandal and there are a lot of different styles with the straps in different places. They have excellent arch support and I can wear them all day at WDW.

Try doing a web search. I know there are some shoe places that offer free shipping AND free returns.

I second the thumbs up for the birkenstocks. THERE GREAT!!! But you would have to get them ahead of time and break them in some. Once you wear them a few times they form to your feet...so anyone else slipping on yours shoes would feel "off"...just wouldn't fit anyones else but you. I can walk for miles in mine....I have walked for miles in mine (working at a hospital I'm on my feet alot..it's the only pair of shoes that I can wear for my whole shift) I can't say enough good things about them. One thing though they have a cork layer...that dosn't like to get real wet, but you could probley have them treated to help with that part.

Oh and they have tons of diffrent styles...including ones that can get wet w/o being treated.

I know I just posted...but now that I thought about it I think I will have to go out and get myself some new birks for the trip...maybe for the DH also. We could use some new summer sandles

The easiest thing is to just buy a man's sandal 2 sizes smaller than your normal womens' size. (i.e., if you wear an 8, you'll wear a man's 6.)

Mens' medium sizing is cut wider. I have a pr. of Nike Straprunners that are perfect for me, they are a mens' 6.5. The other thing that's nice is that the mens' colors in sports sandals tend to be a bit more neutral than the womens'.

I have to wear my birkenstocks. They provide my arches with the support they need an keep my legs from throbbing. My Dad also has very wide feet and he can get Birkenstocks in wide.

I love my Birkenstocks! I have wide feet with high arches and I wear them all day with no problems. Definitely take the previous advice and break them in prior to going to DW. Also, if they get wet the inside gets slippery and they can be hard to walk in, but they dry quickly. I won't go to an amusement park without them.

For water shoes for the water parks I bought some at WallMart for less than $5. I purchased a man's size and the width is just fine.

Now....here I am reading this thread and feeling terrible.

Leaving Friday.....no time to buy B's.

Do you think the Teva's will be OK ??? Or...
.....should I just leave them home and wear the sneakers....Hmmmmm

They are too tapered at the toes. My 4th and pinky toe rub the sides too much.

I love my SAS sandals!!!! Although they are expensive, and hard to find sometimes, this is all I wear in the summer anymore. I now have three pairs, and want a pair in white, but those have to wait until DH finds a job !
I also have trouble with my little toe fitting on sandals, but I don't have that problem with the SAS. I've also worn them all day long at WDW. They come in W and WW. I buy mine at a local shoe store.

What about earth shoes from walmart? My husband and I have had a few pairs and they are the best. Never been to disney in them, but I did walk in New Olreans (the river walk and the french quarter) the day after I bought some slip on ones. For being new shoes, it wasn't bad. I may run to walmart now and look to see what they have.

Earstou, I decided to go to a "real" shoe store this weekend. (Rare around here these days) and told the salesman that I was looking for comfortable sandals that could hold up under lots of walking and that I had wide feet. Immediately came back with SAS sandals. And they felt great! At $90 they were more than I wanted to spend, but I think they will hold up and treat my feet well, so it should be worth it.

I have double wide feet and bought my Teva's a size bigger than I usually wear. I wore them all last summer and for 7 days at Disney is August, I won't go anywhere without them! I won't ever bring sneakers to WDW again, this was my first summer with NO BLISTERS!!! I will, however, just buy the men's sandal to get the wider fit but correct length.

I bought teva's about 5 years ago- there a walking style made with nubuck leather and are the only thing I can wear when walking on my treadmill, all my other shoes kill. There getting really tied looking but there great. Bought new sneakers the last time I went to Disney, thank god I brought the Teva's with me because after the first day I had to go back to them. Teva makes alot of new styles for walking hiking ect, and they have a web site: teva.com

I have a wide foot and found that women's Teva's did not fit my foot right. I found the size I needed in men's and bought them. I wore them everyday at WDW last June and they were GREAT!! No blisters! Every style fits different though. I had to try on a couple different ones to find a shoe I liked. I also bought a pair off ebay, but found out the arch was too much for me (That was why I had to actually go try on some different styles) Good luck!!

Have you ever had a shoe salesperson say "WOW you have wide feet!" oh really thanks for pointing that out, I never noticed.

I bought chaco sandals last summer and wore them to WDW in December and loved them. They have a thick foot bed with arch support and ALL of the straps are adjustable so you can get the sandal to fit exactly. Check them out at chacosan.com
