Wicked

It is likely they will add things from the book that is missing from the stage show.
With how badly they butchered the plot from the book, I don't see how that's possible. I've no interest in seeing this musical in any form. Now if someone were to make a non-musical version that adheres more closely to the book, I'd be all up for that.

I can’t understand why they would cut the show in half when making a film. I wouldn’t watch the first half until the second half was available. It’s not like this is an original movie and then a sequel. This is a well established show with millions of fans. I can’t imagine any of them want to see half now and half later.

This is my favorite musical but I think it's weird to make it in two parts like it's Lord of the Rings or something. The only way it makes sense is if they plan on adding elements from the book. Would be interesting to see what they add considering the book and musical are so drastically different in tone.

I caught the trailer in theaters this past weekend and was excited about what they seemed to have done with the story. I saw the Broadway performance probably twenty+ years ago with my brother’s family and we all loved it.

The two movie leads are perfect IMO. I found this clip and it makes me even more excited to see the movie.

These studios saw how successful this format was with Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows part 1 and 2 and are trying to do the same. In retrospect that was a dumb move as part 1 of Deathly Hallows was pretty boring and part 2 was the better movie.

I saw the musical live and it was fantastic. It and Rent are the best musicals i've ever seen. Looking forward to the movie but didn't realize it will be two parts. That's.....interesting.

According to director Jon Chu (https://ew.com/movies/wicked-movie-released-two-parts/) making a 2 hour movie would require cutting too much of what is in the stage production (which runs 2 hours 45 minutes). Most movie musicals based on stage musicals cut some songs.

Composer Stephen Schwartz also mentioned that trying to follow Defying Gravity immediately with another scene would be difficut. (https://playbill.com/article/stephe...icked-movies-leaves-room-for-single-film-cut-).

I agree that adding topics from the book probably won't work, since the flavor of the book and stage show are so different. The film will have new characters, though, and possibly new songs in Part 2.

I haven’t seen it, although I have heard the soundtrack and like the music. I just keep thinking about two of my favorite movies based on Broadway musicals, The Sound Of Music and My Fair Lady. They both run longer than a typical movie to get everything in. I can’t imagine either one of them being cut into two parts, and having filler added that was not in the original Broadway show. They are much better as they are, one movie containing the entire show.

I've seen the touring show twice. It was amazing. Can't wait to see the movie(s)! 🧙‍♀️

I didn't realize they were making the movie in 2 parts. I was on the fence about seeing it but now it's a hard no.

We did see the musical a few years ago and seeing the movie trailer last week reminded us of how much we loved it so we decided to get tickets before it closes at the end of September. I can't wait to see it again. :D

I saw the play years ago and loved it -the story really made more sense to me than the old Judy Garland movie - even as a very young kid, I thought the Wizard was kind of creepy and a jerk and was really bothered that Dorothy got the Ruby slippers…I mean - she did drop a house on the witch and kill her (even if it was an accident) - why would she be entitled to the deceased’s shoes! How is that fair?
