and I am second guessing myself. I bought tickets months ago and gave them to my dd for her birthday. I have seen the show on tour but I have never seen any show on Broadway. I am worried now that we will be too far back for her to see the show. Can anyone tell me about the Gershwin theater? We are in the center of the orchestra section in row Y. They were the best seats available at the time and I am so worried that she isn't going to be able to see. There's nothing that I can do about the seating now and I know that no matter where we sit she is going to be in heaven but I just don't want her to be disappointed.

You will be absolutely fine. The Gershwin is beautifully laid out and you should have a great view from your seats. Enjoy!

I was just at the Gershwin 2 weeks ago. We sat Center Section Orchestra Row S and the seats were great. The seats/aisles were raised. AND....the show is wonderfully Wicked!!!!!

Thanks!! That makes me feel a lot better to know the seats are raised. I just don't want her not to be able to see.

Now all I have to worry about is finding my way through Manhattan to get to our hotel. :scared1:

No worries!! We saw Wicked at the Gershwin in roughly the same section and I had the same concerns prior to arriving.

As mentioned above, the Gershwin has stadium seating so the top of seats in front of you are at your knees- no issues with peoples heads being in your way.

Also the set for Wicked is so elaborate that it is almost better appreciated from a further distance than being smack in the front.

Enjoy!

Go to the show...you will love it!!!! It is a really neat theater, you actually have to go up in an elevator to get to it! I've seen the show three times and would see it again and again and again if I had the chance! :)

Enjoy!!!!

We are going to see Wicked the first part of June. Our seats are in the front balcony row D and I am hoping these are also good seats. This will be our first trip to New York, my daughter is 17 and has always wanted to go to New York and see Wicked, a dream come true. The only downside was we had to give up our yearly family vacation to disneyworld but now her dance company is going down to compete so we will get to spend a few days at disney. But anyway we had our tickets before we had our plane tickets or hotel, crazy! :scared1: But we have everything now and I am real excited. Where are yall staying at and are you going to see any other shows, we also got tickets to Chicago, another play she is in love with and has never seen.

I also saw Hairspray 2 weeks ago and it was good. Of course you can't compare Wicked and Hairspray. They are two totally different shows. It is like comparing an apple to an orange.

Don't worry about finding the Gershwin, because it is very visable and it finds you. LOL My son lives on Staten Island so we always crash on the futon. This was the first time that I navigated NYC by myself and I had no trouble at all. Just take a little map with you just in case. I did the subways and the cabs. What a thrill it was to be there.

Have a great time.

If you are at all nervous about navigating the streets of NYC remember this.....

ALWAYS look like you know exactly where you are going, even if you are totally lost. Find a safe place and then look at a map if you need to. Duck into a pizza place, deli, Starbucks, etc.

While walking on the street be confident and not fearful.

My DD and I just came back from Fort Lauderdale where we saw Wicked.

YOU WILL LOVE THIS SHOW!

I won't say anything else. ;)

You will have a fabulous time and there is nothing "ominous" about the theater district..! :surfweb:

Did not see it at the Gershwin....boo hoo (my home city...NYC), but I did see this in Ft. Lauderdale last month and it was AMAZING! I loved every mili-second, truly a wonderful experience. The theater district is MUCH different than it was in the 80's or even the 90's. No need to worry, its very safe and user friendly. Have a great time...even if it is your second time....!:thumbsup2

I'm jealous! DD and I saw Wicked in Dallas last summer and I really want to see it again.

Have fun and be safe! Tell your DD Happy Birthday for us.

I would see Wicked even if I had to stand on my head in the broom closet with a peephole! :lmao:
IT'S JUST THAT GOOD.
I hope you have a great time. Come back and let us know how you liked it!

BTW, DD's and I are going to see it again in Chicago in a couple of weeks.

I saw it twice in NYC and last week I was in LA and saw it twice. The show rocks and you are going to have a blast.

"No

I saw it 3 times when I lived in NYC. It is coming to Charlotte NC next week and Lisa and I are going to see it with 10 of our closest friends.

Tickets were so hard to get. We were lucky enough to have friends who were offered a pre-sale and we all got them at that time. They sold out a 2 week run in hours.

So, anyone else going to the matinee on 4/10 in Charlotte???

The seats are fine. The orchestra has stadium seating, you should have no problem at all. My son happens to be a Wicked Groupie. We have seen it at the Gershwin quite a few times in various different locations and never had a problem. I'm sure your daughter will love it. Enjoy!
