I saw the musical first and fell in love with it, so naturally it made me want to read the book. I knew that it was supposed to be "darker" than the musical before going into it, but yeah it was soooo different. I liked it ok, but I am still absolutely flabbergasted how someone could read that book and think, "This would make a great musical!"
I see the musical as the "Disneyfied" version of the book. In fact it seems very similar to me to what Disney did with The Hunchback of Notre Dame. They both have their place.
Son of a Witch, I heard nothing but bad things about it so I never bothered to read it.
