Wicked on Broadway Discounts?

We are one of those families that exchange very few gifts at holiday time.
We like to "save up" all of our gift giving for trips to Disney.

I decided that I want to do something special for my girls in the spring since my son is saving up for a school trip. Is there such a thing as a discount for Wicked tickets? The prices are crazy. We have to be in NYC for a college audition so I thought I would surprise my girls and take them along.
It's been about 30 years since I have been to a Broadway show so I am looking for suggestions.

In a word- no. Not for Wicked. And if you want to buy tickets, get them sooner than later or the prices are even more insane (speaking from experience and past desparation.)

You can try the "lottery" for Wicked. You go to the theater 3 hours before curtain, get on the outside line, and then sign your name on the slip of paper. The guy pulls the names and you MUST have ID and CASH to purchase the tickets at $25 each. You can only get 2 tickets. Orchestra seats. Most are pretty good although there are a couple with limited view.

I was fortunate enough twice to win lottery seats for Wicked. The line is usually crazy long and it gets cold standing there waiting but it's oh so worth it if your name gets pulled.

We have seen Wicked in NYC, as well as in Denver. Honestly, they were both equally as wonderful!! I have tickets to Wicked in Raleigh under our tree as I type! We the show!

If you aren't set on seeing it in NYC, you can check the touring calendar. Maybe it's coming a bit closer to home, and those seats are cheaper than NYC. Depending on where you live, you could combine it with a day trip to different city near you for a whole day of fun.

I would pay full price for tickets if I could even get them to the touring show. It came through Salt Lake City last year and I got online exactly when the tickets went on sale. The amount of people online trying to get tickets pretty much killed the server. I think they sold out of all shows in like 3 minutes. I was not one of the lucky ones that got tickets. I did see in in Denver, however. For some reason, it was much easier to get tickets there. It's coming to Salt Lake again this year and we'll make another run at getting tickets. Last time, it was just my dh and I that went. My kids are huge fans of the music and would LOVE to go. Hopefully I can get some tickets this time.

Good luck on getting your tickets to the Broadway show. Don't count on any discounts though. Just be happy that you can get in at all. lol.
