Wi Fi or ethernet cable

We are at POR Riverside right now. The wireless can be good for a while and then just keep going off and on. We asked would we be charged if we used the ethernet cable, and they said yes. Why would you get wi fi for free and have to pay for ethernet cable? I don't understand. Has anyone else come across this?

I travel a lot, typically 10+ days a month. Most wifi in hotels are slower than 3G. I carry with me an iPhone and an iPad so wireless is what I need and can't plug in an Ethernet cable to get to the Internet. A few years ago I purchased an Airport Express from my local Apple Store. When I stay at a hotel that has an Ethernet connection I plugin my personal Ethernet cable to the socket in my room then plug into my Airport Express and voila...super fast wireless Internet. We have stayed on Disney property 5 times in the last 2 years and we always bring it with us. Several of the resorts have free Internet access but most have the typical $9.99 per 24 hours. My wife and I probably get online more than we should while on vacation but it's usually after my daughter has gone to bed and we are just winding down or checking on open dinner reservations the next day. Also, we fly standby on Delta so being able to log in to check the passenger loads quickly helps us to decide which flight to try to get on.

Anyway, sorry for the long post but that's how we use the Airport Express. For us it comes in really handy because, like I said, most of the wifi we've seen, even at Disney Resorts, is very slow.
