I am doing my ADRs for a quick trip in April. When I look at the menus and then the kids menu I'm disappointed. None of the restaurants seem to offer kid size portions of their food. For example ~ 50s PT my kids love meatloaf. Their meatloaf is supposed to be good. The kids menu doesn't offer it just the typical chicken nuggets. My kids are all under 5 and wouldn't eat an adult portion or any where near it. I think alot of restaurants are missing the boat sure offer chicken nuggets and mac & cheese but also let parents oder kid size portions so their kids aren't in danger of turning into french fries. :cool1: :cool1:

I don't know how accomidating they are but it is worth asking if you could get a child size portion of the meatloaf as a kid's meal. They offer adult size (& priced) portions of the kids meal.

I do think you'll find most of the restaurants pretty accomodating; I would say you could easily ask (and expect) to split an adult's meatloaf meal for 2 kids, etc. I agree that a review and expansion of the kid's meals would be great -- DS is 7 and our WDW trips are usually about 9 days; even he gets tired of hot dogs and chicken nuggets (but we've had good luck getting him nice meals off of adult menus, when there's something that catches his eye).

Good luck!~ Remember, too, that any place that serves pasta will serve a plain bowl for a child, and any place with bread and cheese will make a grilled cheese -- at least, that has been our experience.

my ds also is tired of the kiddy selections. DD is now eating meals along with the rest of us. since she does not know enough to care what she is eating (as long as you put it in front of her quickly when she decides she is hungry) i order from the adult menu for DS and he and DD split the meal. since i am buying this for two children, the servers have never given me a hard time about sharing a meal and i have never been asked to pay a "sharing fee".

not sure if WDW restaurants have this, but i have seen it in other places. it mostly applies to adults sharing one meal or an adult and a child. (that could eat off the child or regular menu.) i am sure someplaces might be sticklers about it and charge me for sharing an adult meal between two kids, but even if it costs a bit more, i would pay. i would rather have them get a decent meal and pay a bit more.

Although it's not listed on the menu, half size portions of everything at Prime Time are available. My youngest has gotten kids' meatloaf at least twice.

Try the Epcot World Showcase restaurants. Some of them don't even have chicken nuggets and hotdogs on the kids' menu! The kids' food does tend to be a little plainer than the adults', though. My son loves the hibachi meal at Teppanyaki, the kabobs at Marrakesh and the chicken tortilla thing at San Angel. I'm not sure they are on the menu any more, but he's also had prime rib at Rose and Crown and a small steak at Le Cellier, too.

Thanks so much for the great suggestions. I have found on the whole WDW restaurants to be pretty accommodating. I certainly will ask about either splitting or child size portions.

When we last ate at 50's prime time the waitress told us that they had meatloaf and pot roast in child sizes but it just wasn't on the menu.
