Why you should never use an FP for EO

This was an 8 day with Epcot recommended. Test Track was at 100 minutes, single rider 50.

Captain EO, despite best efforts to spread demand, still had a posted Standby wait of just 5 minutes.

I counted upwards of 50 people in the FP line, and 5 in the Standby line - the FP line is the longer line in the picture. We all got in at the same time.

I would never use it there anyway - hate that thing lol

:)

Apparently many have not gotten the memo.

Perhaps this was the only choice they had left after picking 2 and had to pick a third. Or maybe this was their fourth FP and the only thing left at the kiosks. I'm still curious why they don't have a reader board at the kiosks showing what is left.

This is one of the issues with FP+ being installed on every single attraction. Some of them simply don't need it. The old FP system only provided FP for rides where it was reasonably necessary. Shoehorning it onto attractions that either don't need it or where it is untenable to use it, has caused some issues and confusion. It's like they need those people to pick EO so they don't pick something else (then again, in tier 2 at Epcot, what really IS needed?). I generally like FP+ quite a bit, but this is definitely something that I would like to see altered.

I agree, but they had to add stuff like this to make sure everyone could pick three. Unless they wanted to build more rides ;)

That's what happens when you have to sign up for 3 FP+, but can only use 1 for either Test Track, Soaring, or Illuminations, and the other 2 on everything else. We typically use the other 2 for Mission Space and Spaceship Earth. Our Mission Space FP + was for 9am-10am. Although there was no wait, we used the FP+ line because we had no intention of riding it twice in a row.

We didn't experience any issues with FP+ or even selecting more for good things... my husband was obsessed with seeing this and dragged me into it .. blech wasn't even on my list of things to do LOL

Michael Jackson was a Pop Music Genius.

Captain EO, IMHO, was not amongst his best work.

There is nothing special about the presentation at Disney.

I'd rather use a FP+ to meet Characters than to view Captain EO.

Heck, even Turtle Talk with Crush is better use of a FP+.

Sorry you wasted the time.

I think I'll add EO to our "to do" list this year. We haven't seen it. Never been interested. We'll put it later in our stay when we're more tired. That way, if it sucks, we don't totally waste our time... we'll take a nap.:crazy2:

I am all for trying every Disney attraction at least once and even retrying the bad ones after several years. I will never see EO again. It was that bad.

Love it. We tried Stitch after a three year gap, and guess what. It was still bad, really bad. We thought maybe we missed something the first time. NOPE!

Captain EO was more impressive in the early 90's before 3D was everywhere like it is now and then there's that whole Michael Jackson pedophile drug addict thing.

And even then I left shaking my head.

My point wasn't if EO is worth it or not, just that using an FP for it doesn't make sense. It's more a dysfunction of FP then anything else.

I was just looking over the FP+ priorities post since our 60 day window opens tonight. Like you mention, I really can't see needing FP+ for any of the 2nd tier attractions. Perhaps this is an example of why they should 1) allow for fewer than 3 FP+ selections, and 2) allow guests to make their initial 3 FP+ reservations at more than one park. MK has plenty of attractions where FP+ would be useful, far more than one could probably get in a day even using additional FP+ beyond their initial 3. I would happily use my first selection at Soarin', explore the WS, and then hop over to MK to ride HM, for instance.

I noticed the same thing a few weeks ago. Even with low crowds (it was a 3 with Epcot recommended), there were plenty of people using FastPass+ at Captain Eo and Figment even with no standby wait. We had Figment as one our choices and we knew it was going to to likely have basically no line but there was nothing else to choose. We already had Test Track so no Soarin' or Living With the Land, we don't ride Mission Space and were able to ride Spaceship Earth and The Seas With Nemo with no wait. The only 3 rides that had any kind of wait were Test Track, Soarin' and Living With the Land (up to 20 minutes at one point).

Okay so I always hear EO is bad, but I've never experienced it myself.

To me, it looks like one of those things that's so bad it's good... It just looks sooo dated, and the fact that it's Michael Jackson and Anjelica Huston in 3D sci-fi directed by Coppola??? All of it just seems so ridiculous and like it would be fun to watch!

So I guess my question is - are my expectations all wrong? Is Captain EO worth seeing on my Epcot day? Or would it be a waste of time?
