I know... what I meant was that it's driving me batty that people aren't willing to read and understand this whole story. ....

It scares me to think that this is what we're teaching our children.

He claimed in a radio interview that he did seek legal council before doing this act--and discovered that he had the legal right to do what he did.

While that may not appear in the article, do you think it is right to convey that it was criminal and illegal...when it may not actually have been?

It's wrong to walk out on a mortgage that you can pay for.

Unfortunatley that is not illegal either (unfortunately! ).

Just b/c people don't have a problem with what he did, does not translate into us blessing the fact that he did it.

A known defense attorney called in on the same radio station later in the day. He stated that he did a little research and the man definately could be prosecuted. If you read the fine print in the mortgage it says that you have to maintain the propery and can not make any structural changes without approval from the bank. This guy almost always defends people, but in the case he said the man doesn't have a leg to stand on. I think they also mentioned that he actually owed $600,000 on the business which is why the man offered the house as collateral on the business loan.

People are cheering him on and saying "good for him". Whether or not it's legal doesn't mean it's right and that is what scares me. What bothers me the most is that he is making himself look like a victim and trying to garner sympathy based on half-truths.

I would think he'd need a permit to bulldoze his house... but I know nothing about Ohio law, so that's just my own speculation. Around here, you practically need a permit to change your wall color. And that's only a slight exaggeration.

I'm not convinced that this wasn't illegal. But whether it is or not, it's not right. And like I said, the thing that bothers a lot is that people are automatically jumping on the bank, but don't care how much money the guy owes.

There are a lot of people in America hurting right now, and they are looking for hope. It isn't hard to understand how they might look at something like this and see only what they want to see...
