Why would I want to add on a 25 point at AKL?? I have 210 points at SSR currently, what would I get with those 25 extra points? 11 months at AKL for my whole stay??? Or just 11mo for 25 points worth??? Just alittle confused with add ons can someone please help!!!

Thank You in advance:thumbsup2

With banking and borrowing, you could end up with 75 points every 3 years, but that's still not much of a stay anywhere. I too have never understood why people want a small contract at any resort. JMO

Well, I agree, but I would like a small contract at Hilton Head (50 points) We drive from Philly, and would like to stay there for three nights on our way home (something we would probably do every year)-- we want a studio in July, and very hard to book at 7 months out--- this would give us a home booking advantage, and perfect for the three nights. Other than that, no I don't get it.

Yes, your 11 month window would only apply to the points you have at AKL.

I don't know about others, but for us, we like small point add-ons because it gives us a chance to increase the number of points we own without spending a lot of money all at once. So when we have enough extra money for a small point purchase we buy them.

We also know that it is easier to sell smaller blocks of points for the same reasons.

Everyone can make their own choices but to me the math seems to make sense at 75 points, no less.

I do understand your thinking--- and it makes sense to me. But my only question is -- do you find it hard to book trips staying at one resort the entire time. If you don't have enought points for the entire trip at one resort at 11months out--- kwim???

25 pts can get you a Value studio in the off season at AKL for 3 week nights if you wanted to stretch a long weekend. Or how about a weekend night + 4 week nights every other year or a full week every third year. I agree it isn't for everyone but I see some value in a 25pt add-on.

I just added on at the same resort I own
I truly wnated AKV when I heard about it...
I can rarely book at the 11 month window at this point in my life.
I did not want the confussion of making sure Disaney only uses the points from one resort and the other so I can bank them for when I wnated the HR advantage
I do not go at DVC peak seasons yet..........
Most important I ma happy at any resort so long as it is at WDW which my home resort is so if I knew I was booking for a hard to get time I would get a room.... Now HH on the other hand I will never get because I would want to go peak season :confused3

I will be staying at Boardwalk in three weeks (my home resort), and am considering adding on 25-50 pts at AKV. I have 250 points, and would love to own 300. I just seem to keep borrowing ahead, and would like to end up even, just once! It's not much, but it works for us!:yay:

The only real reason you would want to add-on at AKL is to have the 11-month booking window. There is only going to be 130-some rooms avail until 2009 at AKL for DVC members. Which means that booking window advantage is a huge advantage in getting anything over there for the next few years. Current DVC members that dont own points at AKL will have trouble getting a reservation there for quite awhile. At least until they finish the DVC Villa section which is scheduled to open up in 2009.
Also some people just love AKL and want to own points there. So if its a good time to add on.

If you dont care about AKL right now (and it will be quite a while before that place sells out) and all you want to do is add more points, I would recommend you check with your guide about getting more points at SSR because I believe you will get a better deal, at least until June.

Everyone has thier method/theory.
I couldn't imagine having 25/50 at another resort, banking/borrowing..then what about the existing main contract you haven't touched, banking/borrowing, calling at the 7th to add to an existing ressie...maybe.

I have 400 pts.with 2 add ons, 1 resort, call once for ressies at the 11th or 7th month...just heavenly and works for me!! :thumbsup2

As far as AKV...it will be almost as large as OKW and when the new hype calms down...won't be a problem getting there either. ;)

Small add-ons also make sense if someone doesn't normally book before the 7 month window. As pointed out, it is a way to increase point totals a little at a time. And within 7 months, it's basically a generic additional 25 points for any DVC resort.

I'm an advocate for small add on contracts at my home resort. I wouldn't really want to add on 25 points at AKL, then again I don't have any desire to stay at AKL right now. We own at SSR and are thinking about adding on another 50 points at SSR this week. To me, adding on just means having more points  since I wouldn't add on at a second resort unless we had to. And I don't think I've booked any further than 6 months out yet.

I think an add on of 25-50 points at a resort other than your home resort is great if;

You want the advantage of getting a specific resort during peak times (which may require 11 mo. window to stay there)

You only want to stay at that resort every couple of year.

You are good at juggling the bank and borrow concept

You only need a studio for a weekend or S-F

I actually have thought about getting a few small contracts at a few resorts for that reason alone. We seem to only travel at peak DVC time and have a difficult timegetting a reservation outside our home resort.

So, if you own at SSR and want to stay at BCV during the F&W festival, or any time during Christmas at VWL, it can difficult to get a reservation at the 7mo. window.

I think the nice thing about DVC is it flexible enough to offer something for everyone.

My feeling is the exact opposite. a small contract is a great flexible option for many people.

as you said you get 75 points with banking and borrowing--thats enough points for a 5 or 6 night stay at most of the resorts -- nothing wrong with that for a small 25 point add on.

otherwise you could simply use it for non home stays at the 7 month mark just like any other points you have
