Why would Disney cancel our reservations at LTT?

Had reservations for 7/24 at 6:40 party of 9. On the 23rd we stopped in to verify the time because my husband insisted I told him 7:40. They said 6:40 had been correct but the reservations had been cancelled due to overbooking at that time. We were lucky to be able to get a reservation for the 24th at 7:10 but they told me to come at our original time and they would give us first available. We then arrived at 6:25 and was seated at 6:30, the whole thing makes no sense to me. I am curious, has this happened to anyone else? We did not receive an email or anything that our reservation had been cancelled.

Nope, I've never heard of such a thing.

I have heard of people being called on the phone and having their reservation changed (very rarely) for a similar reason, or because something came up that conflicted with their reservation. Maybe in your case, someone dropped the ball and forgot to call you?

Sounds like a goof. I had a hotel only resi t be cancelled and then reinstated without my knowlege. It was a bounceback I only found out when I called to change hotels. They said it was cancelled because I didn't pay. When I told them I had, they looked further and said the resi numer had changed. I was a little irritated. I wonder at what point they would've let me know this? A different number could've really caused a problem when I got there!

Anyway, I always take my resi numbers with me so that if there is a goof, we can get t the bottom of it and I'll be accomodated somehow.

I got a phone call from Wolfgang Pucks canceling our reservation. They said that there was a private party that night, and they were booking the entire restaurant.

We went to Boatwrights instead at POR. It was great, I don't think we would have liked WGP's nearly as much :goodvibes

Yep, after over 60 visits to WDW, this exact thing happened to us in May this year. And it's the worse possible nightmare for most of us. My first day, and was excited to start my vacation eating at LeCellier. I arrived and had no reservation. They would not seat me, nor could they find us in the database. My mistake, was we were rushed for time, threw our bags in the room and FORGOT to bring my list of ADRs out of my travel bag with my other paperwork. So no proof!! Went to the front desk and they did a little research and it had been cancelled. Not by me. I was truly disappointed beyond words and it was now 7:30PM with no place to eat and on the delux dining plan. When I got home after the trip ended I wrote to WDW about the incident. They also researched and called me. It appeared to them that someone on THEIR end made a mistake and accidently cancelled it. They apologized that it happened and referred to it as "human error". Did it ruin my trip....yep. It actually was the start of a trip that went wrong from the first day to the end. From my door lock breaking on our first night at Pop and couldn't get it open, to no curtains at BLT and the AC going out for 3 days at BLT, to my DH losing his perscription glasses on a ride (his fault), with our BFF who was meeting us there--having to cancel because of a death, to getting an ear infection and flying home with it. I was never so happy to end a trip in my life. I don't think having my ADR number wouldn't made a difference because after spending 15 minutes with the manage of LeCellier going through cell phones, home phones, names, there was no indication that I ever had an ADR in the LC database and there was no way the manager was going to seat us regardless at this point.

Did it ruin my trip....yep.

1) Sounds like there was a lot more to ruin the trip than a missed ADR.
2) WDW has been cancelling ADR's for years - anyone with an OVERRIDE can do this.
3) It is usually doen to fit someone else into the ADR schedule.

NOTE: THey used to just squeeze a person into the ADR schedule. With an OVERRIDE, you could just add another ressie, regardless how over crowded the eatery was. But, this became such a problem, that now there are only so many ADR's allowed beyond capacity. So, when someone wants to add another, a like-number of ADR's have to be cancelled. Just the way that it is.

Sure doesn't sound like good business to me. Does that mean someone without the dining plan or staying in a Deluxe Resort has a better chance or how do the decide who gets bbumped? We have already decided next trip to stay at Wyndham Bonnet Creek so probably won't have any reservations to deal with but sure don't like the fact they do these things. At least we got in at about the time we were originally scheduled thanks to a very helpful and apologetic CM.

Correct, not one thing ruined the trip, it just became the trip from hell and on the first day this is how it started. It would've been nice to have things get better after this first night, but sadly it didn't. While a ton of stuff went wrong, I'm sure I can think of a couple of good memories too, like watching my 2 yo granddaughter come down the big slide at BLT backwards as she got turned around during the slide. The look on her face was a real memory! My theory on the cancelled ADR was that someone way more important than me needed that ADR so I got the boot!

I would be upset if this happened. You work so hard sometimes to get these ADRs and if i had my heart set on somewhere (say Ohana) and was cancelled out on i would be fuming. However would try to get on with the rest of our trip. At least you were able to eat there.

The VERY FIRST thing I always do after checking into a WDW resort is walk directly over to the Concierge desk & ask for a printout of all my ADRs....that way I know if they are still in the system or not.

Thank goodness I've never had any problems (knock on wood).

Why would you think this? I use to work in dinning and this is never how is was done and still isn't. Anyone that works in the reservation system can cxl a reservation. More then likely what happened was that someone called to cxl another reservation and they got the wrong one or someone called to cxl a Le Cellier reservation and the number was close to that one and it got cxled instead. There is a number of things that could have gone wrong with the system but for someone to cxl it to accomidate someone else didn't happen.

n2mn, please tell me that Disney did something to make up for your cancelled reservation? If they knew that it was "human error" and that you were on the DDP with no where to eat, I would HOPE that something was done to try to restore the "magic"... even if it was after the fact!

Having worked in reservation all I can say is:

Concierge is full of jerks.

If the aforementioned override rules are true (they're new) - it's not reservations that's doing it, it's Concierge and I think I know which stupid resort. I used to give them the riot act on the phone when I discovered they had daily blocks of dining held to dole out to concierge guests under fake names. I have no doubt they'd cancel other people's reservations to make room for their guests - against company policy.

Jerks.

We definitely had our ressie # with us which is how they found it and found out it had been cancelled. Next trip I will check with the conceirge desk at our resort and get a print out of all our ressies, I din't know you could do that. I am still very grateful that the CM at the LTT took care of our situation because if we would have been totally turned away like the poster at Le Cellier my husband would have ruined the rest of our trip. He doesn't forgive and forget easily although the rest of us would have went on unhappy but not crushed.

Figure it this way - someone who'd been having a worse vacation than you ended up with that reservation!

That's not true at all, and again, against company policy.

You do NOT inconvenience one guest for the convenience of another. What's so hard to comprehend about someone at Disney doing things that are wrong either out of stupidity/poor training or malicious intent for their personal gain?

For the record, reservations are tagged when they are modified/canceled/etc.. Looking at it wont tag it, but doing anything to it will.

Contact Disney - they can find out exactly who canceled your reservation. If it was someone from reservations making a mistake it should have a note saying who requested the cancellation, like if someone called-in and gave the wrong confirmation number.

If none of that is there the res agent needs to get dinged and reprimanded for not doing their job properly. If it's concierge at a resort, they need to be read the riot act about the rules again.
